And all our angsting about what precisely was so terrible about Labour and the Greens seems to be completely ignoring this aspect of things. I'm sure that Labour did, in fact, suck in many respects, but what did we just spend a month reading and discussing, people? How the Nats used Slater and colluded with some of our media to smear political opponents! I mean, call me crazy, but until that's sorted all our coulda shoulda woulda seems a bit forest-for-the-trees.

Yes, hence Mark Taslov having a hissy fit all over the place. What has been what I consider major corruption in this country has been swiped out of discussion to say how bad the opposition have done. The Granny to day is just one big turd. What looked like epiphany for some reporters and mea culpa for others has resorted straight back to what was happening a month ago. Slater is still there, Ede has decided to resign, (key would have kept him) Collins is back, and yadda yadda yadda.
Soo, back to Labour are useless then .... yay KDC is gone, Hone is gone. How about that rugby, oh my bad, it's the flag this week. -

And, unless the timeframe is really generous like 12-18 months, it makes whether or not you pay CGT at the whim of the property market in your time and location. Doer-uppers in Lumsden are probably slow to sell.

Apparently the most common cause of double voting is that electoral officials go around the rest homes in advance collecting votes, then, come election day, the kids turn up and say "We're here to take you down to vote, Mum."
"Oh, I think I already have.."
"Nah, can't be, c'mon." (aside) "Told you she's losing it".
Naturally, these cases aren't prosecuted. -
Cunliffe should have just said 'a year' right off the bat when asked. A year sounds reasonable at least, whereas a month is a much harder sell.

Here's an idea: We have an independent electoral arbitrator. If one party attempts disinformation about another's record/policies during the campaign, that party lays a complaint, and the arbitrator decides within 24-48 hours. If he decides against the defendant, they have to make an official retraction. Gosh, we might need about twenty of them! -

Not quite that but,
My mum died and 3 months later I take our house off the Market. Never thought of it like that. But, I'm happy to sell ours in a month or so, even if capital gains was taxed but it wouldn't as it's my family home. My Mum and Dad's (partially mine now.) can stay until the last family member goes. It's for family. There is nothing wrong with contributing to make society fair. It's only the selfish or greedy that seem to have a problem -

It is a pity that in NZ, that for many reasons, almost 1/4 of the voting public choose ( or have just been put off ) not to vote.
There's a great organisation called RockEnrol lead by young voters who are recommending compulsory voting coupled with a 'no confidence' option.
It's an idea worthy of further consideration.

Nah that's right I'm sure. My point is Labour's common idea Is all good in my book. And TV3 news just now need to grow up. To say "have you confidence in DC?, I'd respond "Do you have confidence in Key, Slater and Collins. Start throwing it back in the reporters face.

No, in New Zealand, everything is reconciled and accounted for - just about every piece of paper or plastic used in the election, in fact. After the preliminary count, all used, unused and part-used ballot paper books go in one envelope, spoiled ballots in another, suspicious votes in a third, and counted votes (under seal) in a fourth. If individual vote issuers reconciliations were off, the returning officer would follow up. And scrutineers should be asked to leave if they attempt to touch a ballot paper. It would need everybody present to be in collusion to rig something (with a huge risk that the people to whom you assigned extra votes hadn't actually voted elsewhere).

From friends experience, it'd be nice to make it easier in rural areas that don't even have access to a bus service. Kaitaia doesn't have traffic lights let alone any way for people out in the boondocks to get to a polling station in a town centre. Along Doubtless Bay locals thought it may have been at Taipa College. Didn't know of anywhere else . Didn't matter anyway ,petrol was tight and it was needed to get the kids around the next week. Its 10k to the one and only dairy out our way and then 20k to an area close to where polling may be. Then 20 +k to get back. The dairy were saying ,they used to get candidates. Noone this year.

OMG - Campbell Live tonight - OIA response from Work Safe NZ just received by them show Pike River Mine Stage 1 Recovery has been safe to enter since October 2013 (as assessed and agreed by both Work Safe NZ and Mines Recovery).
The Nats took an overwhelming majority of the party votes there (nearly twice that of Labour) - another lie by the PM (?). Unless the Board of Solid Energy were pulling the wool over his eyes as well.
