Oh you meant her *blog*, not her home. #lessbrave
Dude, it's even LESS admirable to turn up at someone's house. That'd be really fucking Not Okay.

The right have been fighting and winning the class war for years. If you choose not to partake, you're still a victim. (unless you happen to get lucky and wind up on the winning side). Just sayin.
I respectfully disagree. It is more productive to address what someone is saying than to reflexively exclude them with an insult based on what you thought they said ages ago about a different issue. I just can't be bothered with it, basically.
And you do realise that by being a frequent and valued commenter here you have fatally aligned yourself with the espresso-swilling bourgoisie? :-)

I had to acknowledge to myself that I was basically trolling a lot of the time at Kiwiblog. Didn't seem right.
I too find that hard to believe.
Mostly taunting, but still often not in good faith.
I did occasionally unpack the flamethrower -- I thought I'd made Redbaiter cry once -- but I try not to use the power often, or without very good reason.

This is my problem with most internet arguments. It's why I hate "mansplaining" and "privilege" and all that wank*. You actually can attack an argument without attacking a person.

a bit sensitive (no I didn't watch Modern Family
*Look*. If you're referring to my tweet, the episode was about *motherhood*. And I'm *pregnant*. And... yeah, there's no excuse for that sort of carry-on, really. Pathetic. :)

Hey, I figure if David can goad his commenters into saying things he wants them to, a little bit of taunting just fits the tone of the place.

Indeed.

And its kind of proof of how highly I regard this place that I just openly said that. Because I am pretty sure I just sold out the feminist blogosphere. Ah well, most of them already hate me.

As you know, I think the use of words as bullying instruments is an unfortunate and destructive feature of parts of the feminist blogosphere. Also, it drives me nuts.

Not at all. I wrote a reply fessing up to my own waterworks (Spoiler Alert: have you seen Toy Story 3? I mean when Andy sits down and plays with all the toys... enough), but decided not to for some reason. And I'm reliably informed I'm not pregnant.

how active and comfortable women are in these forums
Do you keep stats on the gender breakdown? I do notice that some topics (notably the more political ones) get only a small number of women commenting.
But yes, I certainly feel very comfortable here.

I'm not suggesting brave = admirable. just heard the word "place" differently. never mind.

commenting
Way more folk read than comment.

does anyone think the TPPA is worth the risk/cost
The benefits go to old-boy interests aligned with National, mainly corporate agriculture.
The harms fall on folk they don't understand or care much for, like innovators or ordinary people who need medicine and can't afford health insurance. Thank goodness our strong political opposition are sticking up for them, eh.

Yeah. In fairness, that's not exclusive, by any means, to the feminists. But we do have a lot of words to throw around.
There was a great example on one of the local blogs recently, (which I won't link to) of someone querying the use of the term mansplaining, and the writer not taking to kindly to it, and basically bullying the commenter into submission.
Which, if that's the kind of thing you want, why have comments at all?

For some reason I was thinking about the demographics of the various threads on here over the weekend. Maybe after seeing Russell's tweets and so-forth. FWIW, I avoid the political threads here now. Once bitten, twice shy perhaps. Like that Doberman when I was doing door to door Market Research for Heylen.

I don't, but that's for my own reasons, rather than a comment on the community.

So you can have sycophants and Patsies!

So they were demonstrating, then?

I can’t believe I didn’t find time to make more of how active and comfortable women are in these forums, and what a useful influence that is.
Your hiphop name: LL Cool R.
Are you sure it's not MC Smoove B?

was one of the questions, "Do you have a big scary dog?" ;-)
I don’t, but that’s for my own reasons
Yeah, I don't mostly because it feels futile to me to argue about politics. We all have our own views that aren't likely to change, and I have no special insights to share.

"We need you to resist our corruption," he enjoined at one point of a speech that frequently dwelt on the lobbyist-ridden state of US politics
That's the least of their problems.
And anyway johnkey is busy selling us to India.

By the time I'd run round the house to find shelter from the rain and startled the poor dog from it's sleep on the back porch, there really wasn't time for questions. I was grateful it was properly tied up though, as I tripped during my escape.
I'm not trying to draw any parallels here, but this gives me an odd sense of déjà vu.

Had to look up mansplaining - Didn't know whether to laugh or cry...

I think I prefer the original term, 'patronising.'
