Their actual policy is bizarre though. 15 page long meanderings about how electronic health records will shorten waiting lists and so-on. Even their IP policy is pretty meh, I think. Still, it's very well packaged.
Also while I don't think it's Nazi-like, "fuck John Key" is never going to play in Taihape, which is fine, I/M don't need those votes, but it does open up a lot of space for the Nats to bluster and whinge. Remember, no-one on the right really cares about Internet Mana --- the point is to maintain a Key government, and that means keeping the focus on the scary black guy and the scary fat German and the scary possibly sexually immoral woman and away from anything else.

stirring stuff...
...because it is not new.
Hip Hop?
ptui...Listen up kids, here's the real rabble-rousers...
are you ready?or in the immortal words of Skip Williamson:
"An' when you're smashing the state, kids...
don't fergit to keep a smile on your lips
an' a song in your heart!" -

Does the Labour party have a comms team? A strategic team? Anyone with a clue…
they really don’t want to win do they?A faction would rather lose than become part of a left wing party with truly radical elements like the Greens and IMP.
But it is only a faction, and it is fighting a doomed rear guard action.

You may have seen on the news this excerpt from the Internet Party’s ‘Party Party’ gig at Canterbury University, which was posted to YouTube by the party a week ago:
To me it came across as less Triumph of the Will, and more Never Mind the Bollocks.
-
Distancing from Intermana may not be a bad move from Labour. Yes, I know that view will surprise some of you :)
It's when they try the same tactic with their larger allies or repeatedly shoot their own feet that I despair at their selfish stupidity.

Hebe,
This on Twitter from the never give up department:
@TheNBR Election 2014: 'F*ck John Key' and how Laila Harre just helped National get re-elected

Their policy page is actually quite good – not least because it’s a small miracle of good political copywriting. Other parties could take a lesson there.
Well, point take and well made. So, you know... play to your real strengths not distasteful twatcockery. I don't actually care that much about the chant itself, but as I said perfectly legitimate questions to ask about posting it that don't have to resort to foolish (and frankly distasteful) Hitler analogies.
oh, puhleese. Internet Party policy forum. Mana policy statements. Yep, nothing to see there..
I'm sorry, but who in the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy forced IM to post that damn video? I'm sure there's plenty to see, but don't expect me to make a mix tape for a self-inflicted wound.
This story has been another successful distraction engineered by the usual cabal of Ede, Hooten, Farrar and associates. How many times do these clowns need to wail ‘look over there’ before credulous churnalists stop doing their bidding? Where’s the pride?
Eye-roll right back at you, Sacha.
Unlike for example the right honourable Mr Joyce in full “I see nothing mode”
Bart: With all due and perfectly sincere respect, if we're using him as our baseline we're in serious trouble. Let's just say I don't find his surly bovver boy shtick endearing either, let alone the kind of tone I expect from a senior Minister of the Crown at any time.
-
Seems to me that it is being willfully mis-reported.
Is there really any surprise at the chant arising from a combination of students, alcohol, a function hosted by a political party opposed to John Key, in an area where the National Party has failed to provide adequate leadership in the aftermath of the earthquakes?
Frankly this is pretty much exactly what I would have expected. So the MSM are just sensationalizing it and playing it for maximum effect. The political coverage in Aotearoa's MSM really is puerile. We, the voting public, deserve better.

Kind of like punk rock in 1976-77, methinks?

Hebe,
Interesting. Thar she blows. From NBR:
"Federated Farmers is refusing to explain the exact origins of $7.45 million in “other revenue” it has recorded since 2008, as PwC auditors flag “significant financial reporting matters.”

smear about Dotcom owning a book.
If you pay a lot of money for an autographed Mein Kampf I damn well will think less of you. "Owning a book" is wilfully missing the point.
-
would anyone have summoned the Nazis had Dotcom not been, y’know, German?
And owner of a signed copy of Mein Kampf.

(Snap). It isn't a smear when the guy rolled in the mud of his own volition.

Especially since when you talk to people who have actual contact with him he is apparently smart and hard working, he apparently actually reads and comments on some of the grant applications and they are not light reading.
There are talented hard working people in the National party but we don't get to see much of them and even less of the work they do - disappointing really.

A lot of the genuinely intellectual ones, like Simon Upton and Rob Storey, retired from politics years ago. Or are retiring, like Paul Hutchison. On the other extreme, the smartest thing Bob Clarkson did was to resign from Parliament after just 1 term.
-
Moz,
Yeah, watch the wrinklies lose their shit. OMG, young people!
More than 10 years ago some Australian politicians were doing the same about The Herd singing "Burn Down The Parliament" (complete with drug references!), then NWA's "**** the police" springs to mind. And wasn't that Tane guy getting headlines recently doing a cover of said song? No wonder our elders and betters don't like the whole genre.
Has anyone asked John Key how he feels about his presumably previous support for disgraced former MP John Banks? I'm just going to say that again because I like the sound of it so much: disgraced former MP John Banks.
-
I'm just becroggled at the number of people who apparently never chanted abuse at the current PM of the day, or who never attended a political or protest event where it occurred.
I mean, really, the only thing that's "new" about this is the event organisers taking advantage of the current social media norms by uploading it for public view. A lot of social media is about being seen to be involved in X cool activity ("cool" as defined by your peer group), and it could be argued that they would have been seen as terminally un-savvy if they'd failed to upload such an obviously crowd-rallying moment. It would have been recorded by many participants anyway.
I do agree it was in somewhat bad taste to have been apparently endorsed by a serious party seeking election, but the event aims were a bit of a muddle - performers weren't just there to endorse I-M or KDC.

You may recall someone drew his ownership of said book to our attention. Out of their concern for humanity, naturally. And they won't do more of the same over the next six weeks. Nosirree.

Yeah, that's fair comment.

No. Whatever you think of Dotcom owning that book, comparing what's on that video to a Nazi rally is cheap, lazy and culturally tone-deaf.

Exactly - and there's the more general point that he's a Minister of the Crown. Fronting up to the media (and showing at least a smidgeon of good grace and baseline civility while you're about it) is your damn job. One, need I add, you're actually generously compensated for.
Politicians whine a lot about how they don't get no respect, but there's not an awful lot of honest self-reflection on how much of that is of their own making. I'm not calling for group hugs and community sings at all times, but you can disagree -- and disagree strongly -- without being a wretched jerk about it. We seem to pull it off around here a lot more often than not.

Here’s a short video shot by Stu from State of Mind, more than an hour before Dotcom took the stage. Guess what the kids are chanting …

I believe the Nats backroom worked hard at that angle - bound to dogwhistle older voters - but agree those repeating it without any thought are mostly useful idiots.
