  • Hard News: Rugby Now,

I used to have season tickets in Hamilton up until 2005 before the Chiefs were considered contenders. Watched 2-3 games on Sky each week. Scroll forward 12 years and my live rugby fix is typically 5 or 6 games of Auckland club rugby and 1 AB game at Eden Park.
Club rugby is great, you're close to the action, it's without any of the accoutrements of modern stadia rugby, you still the sense a passion for playing and it's free.

  • Hard News: Up with the Pacer: embracing…,

But I’m finding even a measured ride on this thing is getting me places far quicker and with less effort.

This aspect still surprises a year+ into owning my e-Urban mainly for work commuting. During holidays I rode leisurely from Valley Rd, Mt Eden out to have a closer look at the upgraded Taumanu Reserve in Onehunga. Having got there in approx 30 mins & after a quick cooling paddle decided to carry on over old Mangere Bridge out Ambury Park and back to Mangere Bridge shops for refreshments - in just on hour all up - before setting off home again. It really expands your range and what you can achieve in 2-3 hours riding. Next trip out this way will be to look at the Waikowhai Coastal Boardwalk which opened yesterday.

  • Polity: Forty, in reply to Sue,

Thank your mum for the observation. With a 0 b'day looming in few days the wider family is a little perplexed as to my decision to essentially not celebrate it in the manner they expected. My last 0 birthday was big event and what followed was major upheaval in life that bought my first and v. scary look at own mortality (brain tumour) and a rapid but ultimately successful for all in our family move of cities. This time round just want to have time with my immediate family and day off probably walking around Titiri with my camera.

My original hometown & pleased to the Cenotaph whole again. Was back there a month ago and it was looking touch & go that the works to get "George" back on the plinth were not going to be completed in time.

  • Hard News: The other kind of phone tapping,

After hearing about tapping and discovering it worked on the payphone outside HB Williams Library in Gisborne, 3 of us embarked on a great weekend riding our bikes all around town and the 'burbs trying it on every payphone. It was simple things that kept energetic but geeky 9 y.o. boys amused in the early 70's eh!
