  • Hugh Wilson,

Those were tough questions, I couldn't answer any!

Came across this available for-free-but-$-if-you-like comp on bandcamp - looks to have some tasty stuff if you like beats etc:

Elsewhere Dust and Grooves have feature on the bloke Nowagain's Egon calls the 'greatest collector in the world'. Interesting to note he houses his collection, literally, in a second house!

One question at least has already been answered here -- but otherwise, I have to admit I'd have never heard of the original.

I got one answer... the Moana "You're Welcome" singer. The rest I felt like I should know at least a few... but I didn't.

Bzzz! The original, for the temporary licences, was actually 950 AM. Debbi chose the 95 FM frequency to echo that.

But I literally only know that because I wrote a history of it all.

No worries. I didn't know that one.

The answer to question 1 is the surname Woolright is it not and I think the Neeve console was built for the Beatles.

This Facebook linkhas a great 25 minute Dylan Taite doco on the 1980 Sweetwaters - it has a great 'Frogs' by Toy Love , a dig at Elvis Costello and a typically Kiwi vox pop - NB: contains Mi-Sex!

  • Ken Double,

Flying Nun's sole No 1 was Headless Chicken's wasn't it? And it was "George" not "Cruise Control". I have a weird memory of "Boodle Boodle Boodle", although it was an EP, somehow being anointed top of the charts back in 1982 or whenever the hell it was. That might be the brain plaque talking but it feeeels correct.

    On a different note ......

I'm afraid my Yoruba is a touch rusty but apparently the object of the titular demand is Boko Haram. And that is Eno Williams, easily the best dressed woman in England.

Baysting exiled himself to the other side of the Tasman for a few years, only coming back after the whole affair was quietly forgotten about. I suspect the original recording with the profanity on it got wiped and reused, since VCRs probably weren't yet widely available in NZ. From this Billboard article, VCR penetration in NZ was ~10,000 in early 1982.

I know it's singularly graceless to mention - but there are at least 30 FN songs (including Cruise Control) that would come before George on a 'mostly likely to be a hit' list.

If only Sneaky Feelings had twigged that all they had to do was call Fiona McDonald.
