Hard News: Paying for the storms to come,
Just to add a couple of data points, over the last two years I’ve had 3 fibre connections installed by Chorus. All of these installations have been of an exceptionally high standard. So #notallinstallations …
The process of ordering and getting approvals however, that’s a whole different story.
Dammit, that was supposed to be a Reply to a Post

I can highly recommend the Slush Fund version of Point That Thing and the version of Fish off Syd's Pink Wiring System (https://theclean.bandcamp.com/track/fish-syds-pink-wiring-system-version) in a single playlist on repeat during a long overseas flight.
Both versions discovered on these very pages I believe a while ago

Hey Bart, could you explain a little of what you mean when you say "the Greens anti-science arm"?
I see this in their current (2011) science policy:
The Greens see many potential benefits from the technologies derived from the science of genetics. We support the development of genetic technologies when they are:
10. Properly contained in a laboratory.
11. Subject to case by case approval, including ethical screening and a proper
application of the precautionary principle.
12. Not applied to food production. Is 12 your beef? or do you think they are more against genetic research then this policy implies?

If you are receiving regular income from overseas you should definitely check out a third party foreign exchange broker. When I signed up to mine we went back over six months transactions to discover the ANZ was charging a 1% worse exchange rate that the broker would give me, that's before the fees. "Hope you haven't been doing this long" he said, nah just eight years I said...

Hard News: The CRL and the nature of change,
What was odder in the Herald the other day? Rodney Hide singing the praises of Len Brown or the Herald for printing them?

Up Front: Reading Murder Books,
I can't believe I forgot to name check The Bernie Gunther Novels of Philip Kerr. A detective in Berlin set before, during and after world war 2. Great sense of place, woven with real historical events.
Philip Kerr also does a series about a football manager in the English premier league who solves crimes - they're particularly stupid, dumb good fun...
