  • Rich of Observationz,

Where were the Nats? Couldn't they have sent one member along?

Working with the industries they believe truly need their help.

    Rugby, racing and beer.

  • Paul Litterick,

I don't have a theory really, but it wouldn't surprise me that, given the general left wing nature of such gatherings, the Nats wrote off things like the music, film and TV awards etc as not worth their time.

You will find them at the art show viewings, at those dealers which sell middle-brow representational art to middle-brow unrepresentational people. The Nats play to the Parnell crowd.

I have it on good authority that a senior Tory was at one such event and, surveying the crowd, said, "here is the National Party at play." We can expect a renaissance of bad art if National get to power.

  • LegBreak,

Given the success of OpShop and Elemeno P at these awards is it now official that you need your songs to be picked up by some dreadful ad to win an award?

I took me a few months of that NZ Post ad being around before I realised it wasn’t James Blunt.

  • Russell Brown,

I already booked my Auckland hall for Nov 8th, what with me turning 40 and all...

It's all very well for you, but what will the young rockers do?

I should point out that my confident prediction is really just an educated guess based a small number of possible dates. rather than an actual tip. But I bet I'm right.

No, because then SJD would be getting the gongs after being on the (not dreadful) ads for Buy NZ Made and Monteiths.

How is the award....uh..awarded? Is it on sales, a judging panel, airplay? My guess is a combo of air play and sales, being an APRA award, but I'm prepared to be enlightened.

  • LegBreak,

If the NZ election is on Nov 8 that’s going to be quite some week.

When do we get to let off our fireworks?

  • dc_red,

When do we get to let off our fireworks?

At the same time that McCain/Palin are elected (Nov 4th in the US, but Nov 5th in NZ)? At which point recalling Fawkes' intended use of the gunpowder might be appropriate.

  • LegBreak,

Off topic, I’d be interested to know how National voters in November would vote in the US if they got the chance. Perhaps I’m being idealistic but I’d say it would be a pretty close poll.

I can’t see the Labour / McCain ticket getting much traction though…

  • FletcherB,

It's all very well for you, but what will the young rockers do?

It's my party and I'll..... let in who I choose..... maybe the young rockers will be there? (probably not)

Actually, it's just occurred to me that seeing as the location is rented from a quasi-government public body (Auck regional parks)..... if they wanted the venue they'd probably gazzump my booking and turf me out.... then it would be WTF am I going to do? Then I'd be crying.

  • Russell Brown,

    A correction ...

I've spoken to someone whose just spoken to Greg Locke from the Trons, who'd heard about the Daft Punk thing too. Amusingly, it's news to him.

But, the Trons have in fact been invited to Paris to play a Mercedes corporate do -- which is brilliant. The original version of this story should stand as a demonstration of the perils of getting your news tips from pissed people.

  • Damian Christie,

I haven't heard the phrase "danger to shipping" before, but I'm guessing it means I was tanked?

Can I just say, in my defence, that unlike the rest of you media and music elite, I didn't get to eat dinner last night - I merely got to watch you eat dinner from the cheap seats.

Which of course wasn't much fun, so I spent three hours at the Classic drinking and waiting for the after drinks.

In hindsight, I could've used that time to eat too, I suppose :)

It was a very fun night, even though the last thing I remember is trying to convince Jason from Opshop to steal the Silver Scroll Award from the Media Room. He kindly pointed out that they'd won it, and it probably wasn't a good idea in case it went missing. I think I then tried to convince someone else to do the same thing.

My nameless Classic-drinking colleague, also a dinner-watcher, left after throwing up in the town hall. So I reckon I did okay.

Standard apologies to anyone I insulted. It's not how we're drinking, it's the shit we say when we are.

  • Kerry Weston,

OK, so are they going to end up on You Tube or something, because I find the originals tedious. Sorry, but they're like the aural equivalent of Vigil.

OK, biting... how are they the aural equiv. of Vigil? You don't care for the sleeting, grey looonely skyscape and brooding hills motif of Mr Ward?

The smile never left your face.

Although you could have come back much sooner and seen the entertainment. They stopped checking dinner tickets as soon as everyone was seated anyway.

I wonder if it's safe to call the Nameless One yet?

    There is not part 3.

Indeed. We actually went to a single-break format for the first time this week, but I think everyone forgot to tell the TVNZ web people, so they'd have been confused about it.

  • robbery,

    2 ad breaks, 3 parts.
first part of this week is russell's intro where here states people "don't want to pay for music". (I don't want to pay for petrol, under the new rules I'm so glad I don't have to)
    ws_media7_pta2.mp4 be part 3.
