I was in Farmers at the Palms mall when it happened. It's a lot more frightening that being at home or work. People were crying and panicking, which always seems to make it worse.
I was lucky one of the shop assistants lead us out and my car was parked in a spot that was close to an exit.
I saw some liquafication in Shirley and St Albans when I was driving home, but no where near as back as the previous quakes. -
Who's selling the book?

And then merrily send them over to a Telecom store or website to buy it? Methinks... unlikely.
Yeah, it sounded like an exclusive deal with Telecom to me.
Perhaps they don't expect to have deals with the other ISPs by November or they are playing hard ball with them. -
Of course this is probably the fault of our internet connection, but I'm in the middle of one of NZ's larger cities with a 'fast as your line can go' broadband plan, so I'm not sure there's much more I can do about the line in...
Same problem. Mine was faster on ADSL1 out in the 'burbs. (Must of been right near a cabinet.) Now I'm have half that speed on ADSL2 in the CBD connected to Christchurch central exchange.
That and those stupid new wheelie bins, makes me think they don't like people living in the inner city.

"Well, if we're measuring, mine's 64-bit now too."
To be honest, I haven't noticed a difference.

Did my own OS up date over the weekend. Ubuntu 32 bit to 64bit.
Which did involve a complete reinstall.
The easiest and fastest OS install I've done.
No waiting 3 hours to reformat the hard drive, no searching around for drivers and programs to install.
Small issue with grup not pointing to my XP install but even that was dealt with in a few minutes. -
Those are good. I have to have them every year or so becasue my eyeballs are so distorted there is an increased risk of retinal detachment.
My eyes haven't really changed in the last 15 years, which is probably why I don't get them any more.

To add to the list of things you don't want to hear whilst on the examining table:
"Oops!"
That's what I heard from the assisting half way through surgery on my hand. And everyone in the theater went over for a look.
They never told me what the oops was about.I've worn glasses since I was two, expect for a few years off wearing contacts (the hard ones) in my early 20s.
I hated eye tests when I was a kid, they often used eye drops that made the world far too bright and had to spend the rest of the day with my eyes closed.
They don't seem to do that these days and they have the cool toys.I have to upgrade my lenses relatively frequently: I love the part where the optician says 'Is this one better? Or this one?"
After looking through many very slightly different lenses for 10 minutes, I'm crosseyed & couldnt pick a difference if the things were different colours & sxreaming Pick me!So I'm not the only one that goes:
"Can you go back to the first one",
"Ahmm, try the second one",
"Arrr, the first one again",
"arr, that one will do".I got tested for the laser surgery, but I'm long sighted and out of range of what they can do.

What signal is being sent to Telecom -- and for that matter, to such companies as Vodafone and Orcon, who are already installing their own equipment in unbundled Telecom exchanges?
Didn't vodafone make a statement not so long ago, saying they were putting a hold on their red network roll out, because of telecom's cabinentisation?
I braved vodafone's website, but can't find anything about the red network roll out forecast and chorus's one doesn't have CHCH CBD forecast to 2010, which is actually one of the earlier ones.
