  • Hard News: Rain on his parade,

I don't really care for the parade itself...just don't see the appeal.

    The real entertainment was the

    ...horny, leering crowd...

Of which there wasn't that many, the crowd was pretty much the crowd one normally saw in the square at lunchtime, just more of them.

Once you have seen one topless stripper you have seen them all, but the enthusiasm of some of the younger lads in the office was funny.

  • Hard News: Rain on his parade,

The chicks had to make all the cups of tea as well as supply the blow jobs.

    What? You are allowed both?
Hmmm, gonna have to have words with someone. lol

  • Hard News: Rain on his parade,

I was lucky enough to be working next to the square when they had it in Chch. The square was absolutely packed. And there is some church youth group preforming, happy as to finally have an audience.
But as soon as rumour that the parade was coming our way hit, everyone just left. In two seconds the the middle of the square was empty. You should have seen the look of devastation on the face of the god-bothers.
They were the closest thing to a protest I saw. And they were pretty subtle about it too. They just had a little sign saying who they were. And most people I spoke to thought they were performers doing a lunchtime show.

    Two words: Cellphone, Carpark

That was how we could tell if someone was going for a job somewhere else.

I've worked in both open plan and in cubicles and there isn't much difference with the noise levels. In fact right now I can hear the phone conversion of someone several cubicles across. (Boring work stuff).
At least in a cubicle, one doesn't always have to feel like one has to pretend to be working and the boss can't sneak up on you when you are surfing the net.

  • Hard News: The newest neocon catastrophe,

I'd say the Ottoman invasions helped prolong the "Christendom" attitude to some extent

You would think that, in fact so did I, but not according to my history lectures. Could explain why I failed first year history. lol
They reckoned that the birth of the idea of Europe was a result of the invasion.

Byzantines weren't fond of the crusades from the get go. They only asked for a few mercenaries to help them fight off some tribes that were pinching their land and weren't happy with what they got.

  • Hard News: The newest neocon catastrophe,

Someone should tell McCain that the concept of Christendom as a defensive unit died out around, oh, the High Middle Ages, with the end of the major crusading period.

It was actually when the Ottoman's went to town and invaded europe. Something that McCain should known, since they were the reason Columbus went west liking for a route to China.

That there is sucspicion of Israel and USA arming Georgia reeks of - lets fight a war in somone leses back yard.

I thought that was the reason that the USA arms Israel?
Does this mean that Georgia is arming someone else?
    And so on?

  • Island Life: A boycott would do nothing,

OTOH can you imagine the outcry from football fans if TVNZ had decided not to cover the football against FSCKING BRAZIL, BABY!

But it doesn't need to be a case of either or. Just cover the road race until it's finished and then start showing the football. Like I said over in the comments for Russell's blog. It's not live after the first ad break anyway.

Oops I just had a little rant about the coverage of road race and the soccer in Russell's blog. Should have had it here.

The online coverage doesn't work in ubuntu. You need the offical mircosoft plugin for firefox? WTF?
Even running windows firefox through Wine doesn't like it.
Why oh why do TV websites feel the need to discourage users from viewing their online stuff? Get that BS from TV3 and TV4 as well. (even in XP) Other websites don't feel the need to do it.

  • Hard News: A few days away,

I don't get it. They have an extra channel on Freeview, (though not full HD), but they show the same stuff. Though you don't have to put up with ads.
Why did they have to leave the road race to go to the soccer. It's not live. Well not after the first ad break. I was watching the women's game the night before on TV1 and started flick channels during the ad break.
The game was also on the sport extra channel, but five minutes ahead.
So why didn't they wait to the finish of the road race before starting the soccer coverage. I am generally more interested in soccer than cycling, but I don't see the need to piss cycling fans off.
Besides football shouldn't be in the Olympics anyway. It's too big a sport and they don't have their best players there (well the men's football anyway.)
The extra sport channel does have the decency to stick with an event until it ends, like the total 50 hours of the men's road race. lol
