  • David Haywood,

My God, we'll miss you while you're away, Keith!

And I know exactly what you mean about having to work three days to make one day's pay. The joys of trying to be a quality journalist, and not just making up shit.

And those spirals of self-doubt, too. But you, of all people, have less to doubt about your talents, I believe.

Oh, and not to be insensitive or anything, but does this mean that HoS will be looking to fill some column space. Possibly with another PA writer, in nearly new condition, and only slightly shop-worn?

  • Robyn Gallagher,

Wait, you have a cool new job, but one that won't let you blog?

    That's not cool.

  • Matt Smith,

I hope the new venture works out well Keith.

I'll miss your presence on PA. I find your writing to be a bastion of intellectual integrity and wit (*hmph* data *hmph* facts. A Jedi wants not these things!) in a world of poo-throwing monkey journalism.

(The budget lunch just won't be the same...)

Good luck on the next big thing

  • Peter Ashby,

Sorry to see you go Keith, but the wolf always needs to be kept from the door.

BTW the term is 'change tack', it is a nautical allusion you see. There may be different forms of tact but it doesn't work that way.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

But eating is important. So is other people paying you while you learn stuff.

I'll be watching out for your byline.

  • Tom Beard,

I know how you feel, Keith: the days of trolling through endless reports to find the truth behind simplistic headlines, or pointing out the glaring innumeracy in what passes for professional journalism, ended for me many months ago. Maybe there needs to be a "Statistical Ranger", with a blog to expose the lies and misconceptions that burble through the lazy media?

Anyway, many thanks for fiskings past.

  • giovanni tiso,

I love the idea of you changing tact. I realise I do that a lot with the in-laws.

And of course you'll be sorely missed, like Tze Ming before you - PA has lost two very distinctive voices.

Until told otherwise, we'll have to assume it's an international secret agent-type thing. (Seriously, why the mystery.)

I have this terrible feeling that when Russell promises you and Tze Ming that he's taking you out to a nice farm, he's actually just taking you out back and having you shot....

    We'll miss you!

  • st ephen,

There's some rich guy in Monaco who likes to dish out money in the name of preserving democracy and free speech in New Zealand. Seems to me that funding what YOU were doing would be far more effective than funding someone who's entire career is built on vanity and self-interest.
Seriously. There's a Thinktank waiting with your name on it. Surely amongst all these over-educated PAS readers there must be one who's, like, mega-loaded?

As the bowl of petunias said, "Oh no, not again!"

Or as the whale said 'What's this thing suddenly coming towards me very fast? Very very fast. So big and flat and round, it needs a big wide sounding name like ... ow ... ound ... round ... ground! That's it! That's a good name - ground! I wonder if it will be friends with me?'

Let us all quote Douglas Adams until Keith changes his mind.

"It can hardly be a coincidence that no language on earth has ever developed the expression "as pretty as an airport""
