Wonderful news David. I've occasionally thought a wee acreage somewhere outside Christchurch would be nice. I'm ver happy for you and your family.
Re. Polly I'm sure you get all sorts of unsolicited advice but my nephew, who's about five now, had all the same allergies - thankfully he's grown out of most of them. My sister developed some excellent (evidence based!) recipes and strategies to keep him, and non-allergic siblings, fed and happy. I could pass on contacts if you like.

Yep. I only received guff from The Greens. I'll vote tomorrow at the High Commission - seems more solemn than at the ACT* Electoral Office.
*unfortunate connotations not notwithstanding.

Can't send a koha right now (netbank from o/s playing up and PayPal grates). Definitely will though: it's like paying to not read Stuff :-)
I'd also love a mug, espresso cup and some tumblers...
If there was an annual PA telethon I reckon Russel, David, Graeme and Craig'd just need to threaten to post a whistling tummies* film of their own if we don't pay up.
*It's at about 0:50

Up Front: Fairy-Tale Autopsies, in reply to
Actually, truth be known, I think the whole of life, planets, stars, space, humans animals etc. is connected
So Bart shouldn't separate his Twitter; which'd probably lead to a renaissance in plant biology research funding, increased student numbers, and a whole new genus of pretty, witty, talking plants that look like Emma.

It's a timing = relevence thing. I generally read PAS after work in the late evening, like now: so it's 1:30am in NZ... A witty response is a bit wasted (and so am I, g'night)
Question though: What proportion of lurkers are OS?

Horrible. I run an ESL school. I can't imagine having to create that page.

I was also thinking the same. My family are in Wellington and Dunedin and are fine and I've heard from most friends Christchurch - fingers crossed. I still want to help if possible, so if anyone is stuck here and can't get back to CHC I have spare rooms in Canberra...

Ditto on not liking Comic Sans. I also teach, it makes my skin crawl (the font, not education). (now I really am late!)

It's looking good from Canberra, on a mac. I'll see what my work PC with Vista is like when I get there (I should leave actually... all these comments are making me late).

Firstly
One of the most awe inspiring moments of my life was sitting, in February, on the stony beach at Lake Hawea.
Enjoy the stones while they are there. Me, and all my Mt Aspiring Nation Park loving friends are dismayed and revolted at Brownlee and co. There've been 6500+ members join a facebook group since Dec 1st. I hope to be there for a bit in Feb '10. It's a very special place.
Secondly.
The St James Ethics Centre in Sydney has just managed to get the NSW Gov to agree to a tiny (ten schools) trial of an "ethics-based complement to scripture" in primary schools. The various churches are, of course, all busily lobbying to can it. Given the Premier who OK'd it all just got rolled I s'pose we'll just have to wait and see what eventuates...
