    There are always other choices:

Though I'm not sure if Cthulhu as a Great Old One could produce a valid US Birth Certificate...

Do the National Enquirer and New York Post count as significant?

Really? You have to ask? Lodged amid the Elvis sightings and seedy clickbait? Bwahahaha!

  • Russell Brown,

I know I'm just shouting into the void here, but the Washington Post's David Farenthold has really started to get to the nub of the Trump Foundation.

Bottom line: he's using it to avoid tax on money he is paid.

The numbskull Trump voter who wrote this dreck on Stuff today should probably know that when he's muttering darkly about the Clinton Foundation, he's 180 degrees off.

Not that he'd care. I'm done giving these fucking idiots any benefit of the doubt.

  • Ian Dalziel,

    Clinton 1 / Trump 0
I think Trump managed to shoot himself in the foot he had firmly in mouth.
Whether it would sway his fanbase away is doubtful, but he sure didn't come across as someone trustworthy or honest, he brought his 'bully' to the debate. Clinton brilliantly just left him to interrupt and look like a buffoon.
I still don't have any idea what he would really do, and saw much self contradiction.

  • Russell Brown,

Well, that was weird but oddly watchable.

Trump was incoherent at times and actually lied even more than I thought he would – and doubled down on easily debunked lies.

Maybe that won't hurt him with his voters. But it may be that the thing that does is the truth he inadvertently blurted out: he basically admitted he doesn't pay (and possibly has never paid, depending on how you parse it) Federal income tax: "That's because I'm smart."

    Holy shit.

If he wasn't being audited before, he will be now...

  • simon g,

We've got so used to Trump's bluster that the jaw barely drops any more.

But to put it in perspective, and trying to be as detached and fair as I can, if that level of incoherent performance was produced by a 1% party in NZ (say, Peter Dunne or one of the ACT leaders) we'd say "no wonder his crowd are at 1%".

I honestly can't think of anyone who's done worse in a NZ election debate. Brendan Horan?

  • Russell Brown,

PPP’s post-debate phone poll has wide margins for Clinton among women, non-whites, young people, etc.

But white people thought Trump won 47-45. Factor in the wide margin among women in general and we come back to the stuff upthread about white men really, really hating Hillary Clinton.

I tried to watch the debate, but I just can't listen to the orange buffoon. I'll wait for the highlights clip.

  • Tom Semmens,

Trump sounded like what I imagine Leighton Smith would sound like after one too many visits to the sherry decanter. Or in Trump's case, if the sniffles are any guide, one too many fat lines in the toilet cubicle before the debate...

I watched the WaPo's YouTube stream. Straight up, no chat window. It was blissful.

you know that was probably a lot of Muldoon's appeal with his base, except that it was the gins he'd had before he went on TV rather than sherry

I beginning to want Trump to win just so I can watch as the US slithers does the toilet bowl of life they had hand in creating

A faithful reflection, yes. Yet so much of our global future depends on how these faraway folk vote.

  • Ian Dalziel,

    whiners and losers...
Trump (the good loser that he isn't) has now started whining about his microphone being too low and not working properly - (maybe it was the mic sniffing, hah!) and that the moderator didn't ask Hillary Clinton questions he thought he should have - a bit rich considering that they didn't get through all the proposed questions mostly due to Trump's constant interruptions and his rambling over-time.
Trump could have injected those questions into proceedings, had he prepared better - something he seemed proud of not doing.

    Coolest MSM line so far...

She looked like she belonged on a banknote. He looked like he belonged in detention.

The same story refers to Trump as a "terracotta grifter".

Nate Silver expects a gain for Clinton, but in his typically statistically caveated and nuanced way.
