What's the sign for "twock"? Inquiring minds want to know.

I think you combine the signs for "twat" and "cock".
-
Russell that "original notice for the meeting" has been pulled from the Community Waitakere site buts its still on the Bapist Church's site
-

Does the mentioning of other candidates only count if you use their real name? Laila and Hone could just make references to the Smiling Assassin...
-
Judi Lapsley Miller, in reply to
There are zero votes to be won from that electorate and good media coverage to be won by getting thrown out for failing to observe an utterly pointless rule like not mentioning the PM's name.
You mean John Voldemort Key?

How odd! It was there at 10am.

Hilary Stace, in reply to
The audience could do those signs every time JK speaks. In fact could be used throughout the country at political meetings. Sort of like a secret handshake.

Aro Valley really set the bar for how candidates meetings should go. e.g. water pistols for prolix, convivial but boisterous atmosphere. Great testing ground for the House too.

Why don't we help Holly come up with some rules that should be in place in debates (sorry, meetings) like this? I say they should instantly eject any candidate who uses the word "desperate" or starts any response to a question with the phrase "let me just say this...".
-
In what capacity is Holly Ryan organising this meeting? Who is she?

Businesswoman, longtime (lifelong?) resident, also running the Christmas Parade this year. I think she deserves the benefit of the doubt.
And I can now see why the link to the meeting notice vanished. It had her mobile number on it and she she consequently got a call from Penny Bright, which no one should have to endure. See Bright’s lengthy, ridiculous comment on Kiwiblog.

bmk,
"I'll get back to that ... "
Translation: I'm going to ignore the question and talk about what I want to.

It's not unusual for candidates to be excluded from electorate forums if my experience is typical. I've been not invited to candidate meetings presumably deliberately - other meetings manage to contact all candidates.
And media can be very selective of what candidates they include in debates. I took Radio NZ to task last year for picking only half the candidates and they said more candidates did not fit their format.
When I said picking candidates with higher profiles guaranteed some would keep a profile advantage, and that a public broadcaster should provide equal opportunity democracy they got quite shitty with me (a Wellington manager).
Democracy is not even handed in many ways and there's not much most potential candidates can do about it.

I'd rather not.
1. Kiwiblog
2. Penny Bright[EDIT: Penny's same TL;DR appears on http://thestandard.org.nz/john-key-prepares-for-helensville-debate/.
And I would say that holding a candidates meeting and not inviting all candidates is pretty unreasonable, even if not illegal. ]

Sacha, in reply to
ah thanks.
No doubt the same as Penny's lengthy whine at Te Standard. should be blocked as a spammer.

Johmn Key's failsafe:
"Lets go back a bit......"
Yeah. Means we go so far back we avoid answering altogether. -
Should an eyebrow or two start to raise over what is happening with Internet Mana? Is this what Laila wants at the Helensville meeting?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=YL4UBS_m23wShe is presumably ok with what is happening at other meetings she is a major part of.
-
Yeah imagine young people actually expressing a political view! And getting excited about voting! Can't have that.
-
Pete George, in reply to
How many in that crowd do you think are expressing a political view of their own and who are getting excited about voting?
-
Rich Lock, in reply to
with it all taped down so tight something just has leak out.
Just to clarify: you're still talking about your first bikini waxing, right?

Not a meeting. That's from the Party Party, in the midst of a whole lot of noisy drum 'n' bass and hip hop. People are going to get excited and noisy,
My only problem with those parties is that they were originally pitched as general get-out-the-vote events, but wound up very much as Internet Party campaign things.

Craig Ranapia, in reply to

Yeah, because someone who (whether you like it or not) is still Prime Minister after not one but two free, fair and credible general elections is exactly like a fictional mass murderer.
