others have to taken to the internet to declare him guilty of "receiving stolen property"
But where the criticism of the book isn't simply in bad faith, it's often hapless, as Roughan's column is. Nicky Hager isn't perfect. But it seems fair to say he really does deserve better critics.
Said critics are effectively saying, "it's not illegal when President Nixon is doing it."

I really do look forward to complacent braying dunces like Roughan retiring.
-
Hager is a hero to me. I hope he knows how many of us admire and respect him. All the more so when measured against these dolts.

...John Key - a dolt from the Blue Lagoon
or perhaps warnings on Hide's & Roughan's columns
Warning: Contains a dolt's concepts!:- )

They could at least say of Hide and Jones "This writer was once the head of a major political party, and has never received any journalistic training whatsoever".
-
Both Roughan and Hide make assertions about the book which makes it obvious they haven't read it. That's disgraceful
Also where is Hides contempt for the men who wanted to ruin his marriage . I would be furious about that, anyone would be.

He thinks it's Hager who has done him bad. I got 9 likes in the comments there today :) Every attempt he does to smear Hager, I throw in an inquiry as to why he did stand down. The likes of him seem to all know why Labour should have one or another Leader so I figure his expertise in the field of lost Leaders should be of benefit , just sayin' :)
The man's got a bee in his bonnet and seems to bitch about Hager any chance he gets to drivel. He's a twat. -

Actually the legal ramifications of it (the smear) being true are huge. The blackmail of a member of parliament, that’s serious jail time.
But fuck it, Slater and co were at least talking about it. Yet Rodney Hide is dismissing it as if it wasn’t written. FFS.

That is quite odd, isn't it? Surely the natural response would be to be angry at the people talking about blackmailing you and wrecking your marriage.

Blackmail, a funny word, but a real crime, been on the books for ages. A No-No of law known to all citizens.

At what point do Roughan's falsehoods become a problem for The Herald.
Isn't there some kind of code of ethics?

They follow the Golden Rule: He who has the gold, makes the rules.

The Herald is dying slowly , in ten years it may be gone on the strange economics of reporting versus ad buying. Still we don't need to see this kind of writing, he's Garth George without a faith.

Just looking back to Hagers previous book Hollow Man and the reputed theft of Don Brashs emails.
Some that stands out nowis an OIA release showed the Police knew "something" about Brash missing emails long before Brash himself.Police today said in their reply to the OIA request that they were first notified of the alleged theft on August 30, 2005 and began their official investigation on September 28, 2006.
Dr Brash said in September 2006 that he had made a formal complaint, which was likely to have sparked the move to take up the matter.
01/10/2008
The police refused to release any part of their files on the investigation saying it was likely to prejudice the maintenance of law and breach an obligation of confidence.
http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/654206/Police-knew-about-leaked-of-Brashs-emails
So they knew something about missing emails well before the book came out, and only after the Ombusman intervened did they even give the bare information about the earlier date.
The wording about maintenance of law and order in this situation probably means they were spying on Nicky Hager and knew of the emails when he was writing his book.Another person linked to Brash, Diane Foreman had two suspicious break ins at her Parnell apartment.
Foreman says she did not tell the police of the break-ins for more than a year because she initially thought the police themselves might have been responsible.

Great story but different story, still chilling.
Brash and co were trying to take over the National Party , that ambition was recognised after the 2002 slaughter. They bought buckets of money and they nearly took out Helen Clark after two terms. They did well. They lost.
Don Brash is now ostracised. Winning is everything.

Unless of course Hide knows that Slater has the goods on him, which can in its way totally be read to tally with Hide’s reaction from the outset. The cost of admission is high.

aaah!
So that's the 'Stable Future' people voted for......but, doesn't that mean we then
have a 'stablehand' in control?:- )

How do you know he isn’t, Russell? The media savvy response to allegations of that nature would be not to give the story any legs by talking about it in public, don’t you think?
If anything, Hide's response was the only smart and effective one in this whole saga. "The allegations against me are utterly false, and I have no further comment to make." He pretty much killed that aspect of the story by not playing the game.

I probably wouldn’t want to give it any more oxygen
Yeah, what justifiable reason would anyone have to want to expose blackmail attempts made with empty “menaces”?
-
Jack Harrison, in reply to
If anyone accused me of an infidelity that I didn’t commit they would get a visit, and I know you would feel the same way too.

Because of exactly what you’re doing here, Mark. I don’t think anyone here is in any doubt of your contempt for Hide, but there’s no reason why he should have kept a media circus going around incredibly serious and gross allegations because you think he should.
-
Jack Harrison, in reply to
Unfortunately, it's so messed up that may have to happen. Well done everyone involved.

Six days ago I was commending Hide, so I wouldn’t be at all surprised if there were some doubt as to my feelings about Rodney Hide right now. Which is by the by.
My respect for Rodney is such that I’m not stating what I think he should do, and my respect for his wife is such that I do question why Rodney would not be more forthcoming in addressing allegations of a conspiracy to damage their relationship.
Can we just agree to disagree about this Craig?

This is so fucked up that we are even wasting time on it on R.B’s threads, but that’s where this sewer has gone. Get real. This is so fucked up no one wants to touch it for fear of dirt.
Jesus wept.
