  • Kong,

How bizarre, my wife has been calling our newborn the "Milk Vampire", and when I told her there was a TV series about just that she said she wanted to see it. Just yesterday!

  • Bevan Shortridge,

Ah! A Haunting We Will Go and Count Homogenised! Brings back memories. Thanks very much for putting it up. Kevin Wilson as the Major is perhaps better known latterly as Goldstein's boss in the ASB ads.

righto, you lucky people yous...it is a rare and wonderous thing indeed to behold true genius and have all your paradigms wobbled like purple jelly with beetroot slices sitting in a stiff breeze.

That's classist and elitist. I'm sure most of us at PAS would disapprove of such titular honours.

Heh... I don't know about that -- aim it at the kids, and you'd be surprised what you can get under the radar. Just ask Paul Rubens -- Pee-Wee's Playhouse was some seriously superfreaky shit.

So true. This is the first time I've seen the Count with adult eyes, and he's already brimming over with subtexts. At the time I thought he was just a clown (but a funny one).

Just play it as badly as you possible can until something sweet emerges.

The late American poet Charles Bukowski had some great advice in the title of a poem -
"Play the Piano Drunk Like a Percussion Instrument Until The Fingers Begin to Bleed a Bit"

  • Geoff Lealand,

The talk itself went well: I enjoyed it, and the students seemed to as well.

Always good value, those students. But I did observe (and I am sounding like my own parents here), they all looked so damn young

I am off on my own jaunt in a week or two-, to do talks at three conferences (London, Liverpool and Cardiff) in 10 days! Conferences on 'Transforming Audiences', a 'Media Education Summit' and 'The Future of Journalism'. Such is the lot of the modern academic (and guilt-ridden about the carbon miles)!

I am open to taking requests to bring back supplies (light/cheap/legal) from the UK. I intend to hunt down a DVD copy of Afghan Star.

  • Rik,

The rest of the day was given over to a pilgrimage to Whisky Galore (where I spent more than I intended, to put it mildly: damn you, Brora 1981 25 year-old, for being so complex and entrancing)

According to their website Whisky Galore still have a bottle of this left.

I commend your restraint in not cleaning out their stock!

Can I hear an Amen for "Yo Gabba Gabba", the kids TV show that has included musical guests such as Biz Markie, Jack Black, Ladytron, The Ting Tings, and Chromeo? Kids TV: there's more to it than you think.

I see you that, and raise you Lego - the movie!

  • Danielle,

I watch it every single day and I don't even *have* kids. The episode I watched yesterday had Money Mark and Rhys Derby on it! Rad. When Amy Sedaris turned up as the Tooth Fairy in one episode I thought I might levitate.

  • Kebabette,

How about a bit of Chch foodiness for the weekend? I highly recommended the pork sandwiches from New York Deli ... they make them with Rachel Scott bread, onion jam, and the crackling all smashed up into little crunchy delicious bits.

Plus Richard Till will be doing a talk in the Central Library on Sunday.

Groovy things I've been told of this week:

That's excellent, I must watch more closely next time my kids have it on. OTOH, to much famiglia Sedaris might be bad for their mental health...
