    Anything?? In that case...

  • webweaver,

@3410 - dude... that's just... I have no words. The costumes, the choreography, the music... it's like a parallel universe or something. And WHAT was with the pink rubber gloves and the giant squirty tube of goo at the end? Good lord.

Whereas Hilary's "Joe and Phil play the blues" is just plain sweet. And the sand animation? Awesome - and I think I got something in my eye....

@3410 -- thank you, funniest thing I've seen all week. Kept half-expecting Will Ferrell and John C Reilly to pop up in the middle of it ...

  • Kim Sokolich,

righto, you lucky people yous...it is a rare and wonderous thing indeed to behold true genius and have all your paradigms wobbled like purple jelly with beetroot slices sitting in a stiff breeze.

    I present Raygun...

Alan, Whilst I struggle to understand your sentence I see this created quite a furore when it was originally posted. SonyBMG had it taken down and the singer Ray felt the need to apologise. Quite funny.

  • Rich Lock,

Confirmed: Bryan Singer to direct a Battlestar movie

Obviously, nobody at Universal endured the multiple bore-gasm that is Superman Returns.

Hmm. I quite enjoyed 'Superman Returns'. But Singer has a track record that could charitably be described as....patchy.

And given how much I disliked where BSG ended up (Angels. What. The fuck?), I'm not holding out much hope for either 'Caprica' or this film.

just a nudge here then in the direction of the Papal Encyclical on Economics, which, given its content concerning Youth Culture
as the downfall of same, was perfectly obscured in its weblication by the precision sacrifice of Michael Jackson at the time...

    Heather Parisi, "Crilù" (1984)

You owe me all the money I had spent in therapy to try to forget the lyrics. As for the costumes and the dancing... the psychiatrist who can help me erase those is not yet born.

(By the same token, one has to bow to your knowledge of obscure Italian music and assorted pop crimes.)

(Heather Parisi, boy... should I mention I was 13 at the times.)

    (As you were.)

Watched this the other night. Recommended for those who enjoyed "The Thick of It", as opposed to those who enjoyed "The West Wing", assuming there is a distinction.

By golly, you're right. I'm going to have spend time on this now.

    The Benedict Blog has heaps.

Killer quote from the chapter summaries:

The Pontiff dedicates the final paragraph of this chapter to the "strongly felt need" for a reform of the United Nations and of "economic institutions and international finance. ... There is", he says, "urgent need of a true world political authority" with "effective power".

New World Order! Ladies and gentlemen, you may start your conspiracy theories now ...

Oh, wonderful. My eyes lit up when I read "The Pope Benedict Roundup!" but they didn't mean what I hoped they would.

  • Tim Michie,

JUst wanted to plug, thanks to io9, Gunnerkrigg Court, a wonderful webcomic that could be described as Harry Potter with robots and a female lead but reminds me most of early Love and Rockets.

  • Craig Ranapia,

but reminds me most of early Love and Rockets.

Los Bros Hernandez are golden gods -- and still going strong. Got to admit that if I had to choose, I still prefer the later, more quote unquote 'realistic' work and am a bit meh-some about the really early stuff where L&R was still finding its tonal and narrative feet. Still, you've got to give them credit for getting past the tits-and-arse spandex ghetto mainstream comics still too often puts women in. Recently, Maggie and Hopey are (reluctantly) sliding into middle-age, but still beautiful and infuriatingly human as ever.

  • Tim Michie,

I was thinking 'Maggie the Mechanic' and 'Music for Monsters' specifically but yes, love (with rockets) the later stuff too. Gunnerkrigg Court, to my eyes, a similar charm and playfulness of the early self published work before Bros Hernandez knew they'd become indie comix names of note.

  • Just thinking,

Not speaking Latin myself, my translation of Caritas in Vertate is Love in Truth.

The Common Good (50th edition!), the mag of the Catholic Worker has a good write up on Caritas in Veritate.

Now included in the concept of 'the common good' is the environment and that sharing with the poor is not an optional extra. It is essential to living a Christian life.

Sorry only up to no.47 online. So you'll need to contact your local Anachist-Christian or online for a copy.
