(I can’t believe we have all these great pohutukawa pictures and none from Cape Reinga yet)
Managed to get up the rocks and a glance across to Mt Puheke revealed this Pohutakawa the other day.( I’ll get back soon when it is not being invaded by 4wd on the beach by tourorists. They will be gone soon back down SH1)
So yeah ,not the Cape but close…
And a image of Puheke . -

Hi Chris.
Thanks for posting. We seem to be having an issue with images flipping sideways, at least in the preview. It may be something to do with the size of the file, as yours is the second full resolution file to do this in the last two days.
I resized your photo and saved it just using the Preview software on my Mac. That seemed to fix it.
Cheers.

A request:
Hi Bart.
So all you want is the perfect pohutukawa shot, with Hobbiton in the background?
I'll get right on it. :-)
Seriously though, I would personally be happy for you to use one of my images, I just don't think I have any that meet the criteria. Let me know if you see one here you'd like.

Rangitoto would work as well. Basically the kind of picture every kiwi loves to show off to the world :).
I've had a look through here and not found one that fits :(.
And actually I really do know that it isn't an easy set of criteria, we've been looking for the last few years, not really hard but just keeping an eye out and it's frustrating just how many almost perfect trees are spoiled by power lines in particular.

Glad to see pohutukawa still going off in other parts! Reg, that's really Peak Pohutukawa.
Thanks for jealousing us up there Sofie. Looks like another world.
And Bart, there's your branching pic right there in Lynley's dancing trees!

And just for good measure, thought I’d show how really horrible this place can be….. ;)
Happy New Year Sofie. Hope the North is treating you well, which it would appear to be. :-)

A glut of Pohutukawa nectar in Wellington has seen bees take to the walls of higher learning at Victoria University. http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/65078724/Wellington-bee-swarm-finds-new-home
And another interesting feature of Pohutukawa trees are the fibrous aerial roots seen on this local tree in Porirua. Many of the trees along Oriental Bay have these aerial roots too.

Apparently, thanks to Abbie and her resident expert, this is a variegated pohutukawa, which is another Kermadec varietal, on further investigation.
