  • Hard News: What I'd really like to know,

I thought underwear came from India. Certainly Pajamas did.

If people buy the product thinking the of the Shire but then realise Fonterra is in fact Saruman the White this may prove effective

    Could you translate this please?

IP is a fine idea but what indication has Fonterra given that they intend to remain a NZ based company?

Surely the logical extention of their policy is to move closer to the growing production areas and markets?

On creation the 1st thing Fonterra did was raise the price of milk 5cents. This has continued and "world prices" are paid in NZ when world costs don't apply.

Principally water is free which is not the case in the rest of the world. I shud be clear any cost of delivery is not a cost of water itself.

Those concerned with the local NZ environment are ruminating on various ways to assist Fonterra & their shareholders to tidy up their act and reduce their impact here.

European based campaigns to show the reality of the environmental impact in NZ one idea. If people buy the product thinking the of the Shire but then realise Fonterra is in fact Saruman the White this may prove effective.

Fonterra won't be a NZ company in 30yrs as the water consents will dry up then.

But before any of this happens including paying off the mortgaged farms. Fonterra will be based closer to its markets in even lower wage economies than NZ.

I did love the $7 Million being described as a quantum leap on RNZ - I think quoting Fed Farmers.

"And seriously, is it wise to send Brian Connell anywhere?" - Well maybe but it would be undemocratic not too. He was elected by the good people of Selwyn after all.

The Poles can handle him- aren't the Prez & PM twin brothers? My fave Polish political parties are the Beer Party & after a split the Little Beer Party.

  • Hard News: Call it what you like,

    A tragic loss.

"If kids do this on MySpace or Bebo, the news media starts shrieking about internet suicide cults. But we're grown up, so it's alright."

Yeah this struck me for an hour or two yesterday.

How unfair Finns passing is and made more so if grief or condolenses aren't able to be shared.

I looked back to a few of my own darker moments & I can see where this commentary could be a problem.

I also cringe at the "New Cops" story about suicide & how the cop saved the day - just that easy isn't it. And sneer at the bloody cadbury chocolate easter eggs add campaign at the moment as well. I know this is being a little over sensitive.

My thoughts are with Finns family & friends.

  • OnPoint: AIA and Maori Seats,

Dave - A Maori Parliment operating over vast tracks of Maori land and people. As happened in a regional form at Parihaka.
The need for a Treaty on the Maori side was for the Brits to control the rabble that had arrived like rats from passing ships to NZs shores.

Kyle but that's the joy of Common Law & with the existing precident it has started to impact on NZ - watch this space.

  • OnPoint: AIA and Maori Seats,

Dave the Maori seats are a sop to the Crown by the Seattler Govt instead of observing the true obligations the Crown entered into with Maori in the TOW.

  • OnPoint: AIA and Maori Seats,

"The various treaties that were signed on and after 1840 are also not enforceable in law."
    & then
"The principles defined by the Court of Appeal might be enforceable in law,..."

So you agree the Treaty is a Constitutional Document & (in some capacity) has been enforce by NZ courts?

  • OnPoint: AIA and Maori Seats,

"The common law you've referred to relates to principles, not the text of the treaties that were signed."

Kyle I'm pointing to the Judge made law that includes the TOW & so makes Common Law.

"The Treaty itself doesn't fulfil any of the requirements for being some sort of constitution that I'm aware of."
    & then
"While some of the rights and responsibilities listed in the treaty are of a constitutional nature," = Snookered :P

"that Act doesn't enforce the treaty as some sort of constitution, it just uses it to address..." - We don't have a single Constitution but our Constututional Convention includes the Treaty of Waitangi & agreed it is not given the weight it shud but Common Law has used it as such and I expect this to increase due to the precident now set.

I would be keen to hear what you think makes up our Constitution Kyle.

Two non-lawyers bickering over our Nations Constitution. One thing is clear it needs a rewrite.
