Thanks for your courage and composure in saying this.

Some more detail on why John Key doesn't get to play the "you back rapists" card.

For fuck’s sake vote this motherfucker out in 2017.

And yet the only thing I feel for the men who hurt me is pity.
Amen. I relate to this most powerful ethos. I am going to have to work really, really hard to extend the same ethos to the people who are causing the pain right now.

Thank you. I really appreciate your giving me this opportunity to read, and better understand, your view of the world.

Thank you, Claudia.

Yes, Caudia yes. Those of us who have shared this cruddy experience with you salute you. This was/is a great piece, that speaks truth to power. I would like to hope that the politicians who care so much about power that they are willing to be so evisceratingly ugly in thought and word- that they will at the very least apologise. But that's a faint and fading hope: John Key and David Carter and their fellow-travellers care nowt for ethics I fear. So in lieu of hope, I'm reminding people of the words of the Spooky Men's Chorus, to "Vote the Bastards Out"

Well said, Claudia.
John Key will have consulted his pollster and his spin advisors and he will have been told that his gross, appalling outburst in parliament would win him votes. He doesn't give a fuck about who he hurts so long as he wins votes.
David Carter's reputation has plummeted over this fiasco.
JK's outburst and the Speaker's response are sickening, but ripostes like yours help to restore our faith in humanity.

Nga mihinui, Claudia.
Thank you. -
Thank you for sharing your story. The words of the PM and subsequent actions in parliament reinforce the actuality of 'rape culture' in NZ. The prevailing views of the people in power are not aligned with equality nor challenging the victim blaming belief system. This is the same country where people like Tony Veitch are still employed, roastbusters are not charged, and our PM can finger a waitress in public, without her consent, and remain in parliament.
It is pretty awful. -
Claudia, thank you, and well said.

Thanks Claudia.

Claudia, thank you.
You have spoken your words with such an amazing grace and courage . You have given a clear expression to our deep sense of hurt and disappointment at John Key's trivialisation of sexual assault against women. Kia kaha Claudia. -
Sue,
Thank you so much claudia
our stories, they are so incredibly painful to tell, i want to live in a world where we don't need to tell them, where our male political leaders act like american frat boysSo thank you so much for your strength and for sharing

Kumara Republic, in reply to
where our male political leaders act like american frat boys
One of them basically got off scot-free in the Maryville rape trial, courtesy of his grand-daddy being on the state judiciary. And to rub salt in the wounds, he was unrepentant on Twitter: "she wants the D".

Thank you Claudia. My face hurts holding in tears.
