Note also the headline’s victim-blaming femme fatale reference
(“crash” should presumably have been added).

I note the NZ Herald site travels a day forward with their cartoon roundup today (the 21st) as well as inventing a new ’sheepish’ sounding date the 22th!!

Meanwhile Stuff's grammatical decline continues. This clunker is on their front page at the moment.

Rather than get an ‘a & r’ man on the job, they’ve changed it to ‘boat man's’….

Now the link text is corrected as "Catamaran dad's court no-show", though the headline still appears to refer to a daughter called Alan:

Man who sailed across Tasman Sea with daughter, Alan Langdon, a no show at Te Awamutu District Court

Stuff appear to be channelling John Key’s accent here. Or maybe it's English's Southland drawl?

Meanwhile over at Fairfax, Stuff have enlisted some geezer named Patrick Whittle (whose PhD thesis apparently addressed the egalitarian political implications of human evolutionary history, including sex/gender differences. ) to mansplain why ’Women are marching because the world really is becoming a scarier place for them’ – he really hammers the point home by getting Katherine ’Kate’ Sheppard’s name completely wrong :

This country’s “suffragettes” and their supporters, led by Catherine “Kate” Shepherd, were motivated by a desire to achieve sexual equality and thereby reduce violence against women.

what research worth a damn can he have done that he took any notice of?

Even the caption writers/subs get in on the act!

Suffragette Kate Shepherd was celebrated in "That Bloody Woman" at the Court Theatre last year.

    - has history been dropped as a subject in our schools?
    - do journalists not get $10 notes?

    Little wonder women are marching!!

    Sheppard's delight...
Even when ya let them know not to propagate 'alternative facts' (or surname spellings) they still only fix half of them - seemingly Fairfax cannot afford 'find-and-replace' functions on their computers...

Here's hoping a second comment will get through to them before the day is out.
(I'm starting to wonder if I should invoice them for 'unsolicited proofreading services')

...and I will admit that Sheppard was born a 'Catherine' - but she preferred and used 'Katherine' insofar as I can find - so I'll defer to her choices.

  • Ian Dalziel,

TV One News invented a new word last night 'expediate' !
    (in lieu of expedite)

Matt Nippert's Herald story on Thiel's profitable (for him) VIF partnered deal has Thiel becoming a 'New Zeander'
    http://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=11794020

and the Herald's Leader writer can't even spell Barack Obama's name (Barrack)!
    http://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=11794315

Small blows against the empire of language and communication perhaps, but each one dilutes and diminishes... close enough ain't good enough.

Barry Soper really is losing it...

...Jackson's likely to be joined by his former Alliance colleague Laila Haare...

    http://www.nzherald.co.nz/politics/news/article.cfm?c_id=280&objectid=11796352

How hard can it be to get a public figure's name right?
Especially when written by a longtime so-called 'political reporter'...
To not even check it, let alone it getting past all the checks-and-balances that are supposed to be in place - sloppy, sloppy, sloppy...

To be fair he’s been through an ordeal recently, but it’s indisputable that things have gone to the dogs when only the most pronounced error in a given paragraph now merits inclusion on The End of MSM thread:

Jackson’s likely to be joined by his former Alliance colleague Laila Haare, who incredibly linked arms with Kim Dotcom at the last election, and who now acknowledges that the association tarnished her image. It seems it’s not tarnished enough for be part of the Labour team though.

Another Stuff-up from one of our biggest media outlets. This glaring typo is on Stuff's front page right now. And the same error is repeated throughout the story.

Memo to Fairfax subs... the word is "Parapente" -- para refers to anything related to parachutes, and pente is the French for "slope", referring to the method of takeoff. It's pretty basic.
