  • FletcherB,

No – it’s a legal term for anyone who is neither the Sovereign nor a peer.

You surprised me, but a quick google shows you are correct as far as british law is concerned. But multiple dictionary sources also suggest a common usage definition of "someone who holds no title or rank"...

Lots of non-chav commoners under either definition.

  • Martin Lindberg,

They have different social-markers and styles of clothing

Although they share the love of Burberry

    Westies and Boguns love Burberry?

This is news to me, but I may simply be out of touch despite living in ex-Waitakere City?

Well, more the British chavs, I suppose. I haven't see that here. But upmarket giant sunglasses (e.g. Christian Dior) seem to be popular out West and down South.

Apparently it's all part of Prole drift

Saw the interview with them this morning, talking about how they met. Apparently Wills screwed the crew....

  • Rich of Observationz,

So the order of precedence goes something like:

    pikie < chav < commoner < posh git < royal < Warner's exec?

  • Rich Lock,

I'm rather tickled that they will (unfortunately only temporarily) have to live in North Wales, a fate that I'd happily wish on my worst enemy.

Looks like wishes do come true after all. You only have to believe hard enough. Thanks, Tinkerbell!

  • HORansome,

What's wrong with North Wales? I thought Bangor and Caernaron were great. This isn't the customary "Make fun of the Welsh" thing people like to do, is it?

  • Matthew Poole,

Given that Wills is remaining as a pilot in the RAF, one cannot help but wonder if Kate is ready for life in military housing. Even officer housing ain't that flash when one is merely a flight lieutenant. Or does the rank of "Your Highness" carry its own housing allowance?

[ETA] I guess Commodore-in-Chief and Honorary Air Commandant entitle one to some super-grade housing too.

Oh, come on now--there is some damn fine country around there, as well as the real curiosity of Portmeirion. Personally, I think they should be living on a housing estate.

  • Rich of Observationz,

When Prince Andrew was in the Navy. he had Fergie following on a fleet refueler, on which she had snagged the skippers cabin. That contributed to his acquiring a four letter nickname in the RN. That, and insisting that officers senior to him called him "sir".

  • Xeno, in reply to Idiot Savant,

I'm once again glad that I get all my TV over the internet, and will thus be able to avoid this bullshit.

Now to see if I can set AdBlock to recognise any mention of royalty as an ad and block it.

Oh, I know what you're getting for Xmas, Mr Grumpy-Pants.

  • Craig Ranapia,

Meanwhile, I can exclusively reveal Wills popped down to Althorp, ripped off his mother’s putrescent ring finger and presented the keepsake to his beloved. Or at least, that’s the impression you got from the truly bizarre performance on The Panel this avo.

  • Sacha,

Some gentle satire via Lyndon Hood.

‘We’re delighted for the young couple,’ said pub landlord Dave Stanley. ‘Obviously the next job now is to set about choosing a name for the child. I’d imagine ‘Kyle’ has got to be a front runner if it’s a boy, and ‘Cheryl’ if it turns out to be a young lady. Something classy, anyway. Oh, and I’d strongly advise young Will to get a pre-nup. Shopping at Harrods and holidaying in Paris should both definitely be out.’

  • Craig Ranapia, in reply to Sacha,

    Too soon. :)

And I rather miss the Henrician pre-nup: "You start popping the boy-sprogs, or I'll have you convicted on trumped-up charges of incestuous adultery and high treason or whatever else will separate your head from the rest of your body. M'kay?"

  • Neil Morrison,

he had Fergie following on a fleet refueler,

permission to make some inappropriate jokes, Sir.

I've found the English royals to be quite entaining and the thought of GB without the present queen a bit sad.

It's an intersting phenomenon though. I've wondered at times whether it would have been possible to transition from tribal society - where many families rule - to democracy - where we try and keep famlies under control - via Monarchy - where at least it's just one family making all the rules.

    or Wilt

    Very Sharpe!

Kate's family have a mail order business. Mail travels on roads. The NAU wants a unification highway etc

    A New World Mail Order...

I think this wedding might well signal the end of civilisation as we know it.

Nonsense! The Mayans have clearly indicated that this will occur when the ball playing Hero Twins bring down 7-Macaw - so it's just more trouble at the breakdown of civilisation really...
...The antediluvian world was lorded over by Itz'am Ye or K’iche’s, Vukub-Caquix, "Seven Macaw," who took the place of the sun. To prepare for the creation of the true humans, the rule of Seven Macaw had to be ended. This was achieved by the Hero Twins of the Popol Vuh, who shot Seven Macaw from his tree.

    Only 765 days to go...

You mean she might as well be a Prisoner ?

    Merely a healthy disrespect.

The only bizzarre performance on that show today was from Mora himself. His simpering, utterly thoughtless, instinctive and relentless ingratiation to Establishment is truly sickening.

God, I really hate that guy!

    Ah, that feels better!
