    Phew. Russell is still kicking.
“Always look on the bright side of life” began the first days broadcast over my hijacked PA system attached to the side of our house. Intend to broadcast appropriate song each night at 7 pm.
Unbelievably, last night the power went off at 6-45. Delay was sufficient for No 1 to tell me kids are in bed at 7-45pm. Restart tonight with “Staying Alive”. Intel informs me it is heard well up the Pinehaven valley. Claps and cheers after day 1.

My sister had a fruit orchard in Napier. One sunday afternoon a car arrived at the gate and 3 guys got out, jumped the fence, and ran right around the house picking every poppy head that they obviously knew was there. Sister ran out but missed them all as they jumped back into the car and down the road. Cops called. Nothing done about it.

It's just a hop and a skip to track the sewer to source. Where does the ownership of my sewer change to Council? Could the inspectors track each outlet? Are there rules in that space? Drug usage by suburb? Street?

Early buyers might own these for 5 or 10 years, but these houses will provide access into the market for 50 or 100 years.

I can't help thinking this is the cruncher. "Access to the market" is one description. "Onto the property ladder" is another. The ladder seems to be the cause of all this strife. The haves (working poor) are keen (desperate) to sell (buy) so that they can move to a house that will increase in value over the shortest period possible. It all ratchets up. Dare I say there was once a time when folk "made the money" to buy the next rung? Now it is how much will the bank dosh out to get me 3 rungs up. The devil takes the hindmost. We all lose.

I'm happy to impose the CGT to halt this madness for future generations. Unfortunately there will be losers. But is it likely there will be many winners?

  • Hard News: A painful reflection,

Russell includes the build up of the bullshit.. Page 24 has the killer “experts” sorted:

There was no New Zealand standard or guideline for methamphetamine testing and decontamination during this period. Housing New Zealand relied on the expertise of companies that were qualified to test for contamination.

I noticed something during the TV debate. It reminded me of Fox and Friends and their perspectively diminished female with the blokes to the fore and dominant. There was not one left to right camera during the whole debate other than some from behind Goon’s left shoulder. The long shots had Alpha Billy always in front of the perspectively lower Ms J. Well played TV Won.
