  • Craig Ranapia,

The question is: are you really ready for the coming frenzy?

Dish the dress; hope Harry wears something mouthwateringly inappropriate to the reception after arranging a stag do of Babylonian vileness: pray Grandpa calls the bride "slutty-pants" in front of a live microphone. And I'm done.

  • Rochelle Furneaux,

Anyone else like me wondering if the British government will be cheering the timing given the deplorable state of the economy... Will it boost the economy or just mask its dire state?

  • Robyn Gallagher,

Yeah, it's all very different to Charles and Diana's wedding. We can assume that Kate is not a medically certified virgin (ugh - I can't believe that shit used to go on). Wills and Kate's relationship seems more like Charles and Camilla than Charles and Di. Thank God.

I surprised myself by getting rool emotional this morning when I learned of the wedding news - the same sort of reaction I'd have if I'd heard some friends were to wed. So, yay, it's not a shitty marriage of convenience. More like a long-term couple finally getting hitched as they approach their 30s. Lots of my friends have done this.

Meanwhile, I'll have to create an artwork to celebrate this wedding. In 1981 I drew a painting of the yellow-haired princess getting married. Unknown to me, my grandma sent it off to Buckingham Palace, and I was thrilled to receive an official response. So, watch out Princess Kate - I'm-a gonna paint u.

  • Russell Brown,

Oh, okay. I am reliably informed that Camilla did say "wicked" -- on the BBC and everything. How jolly of her.

  • Lucy Stewart,

The question is: are you really ready for the coming frenzy? And if not, hadn’t you better be booking that desert island?

Not asking for a desert island, just for the teensiest bit of perspective. I'm looking at you, Stuff.

(And, you know, I say this as someone who once memorised the entire list of British monarchs since Edward the Confessor. I get the monarchy thing. I just don't think it's more important than a serious threat to a major industry. Blessedly, the Herald agrees with me.)

  • Ben Austin,

So where does one buy bunting these days, if I'm to bunt the local street?

  • Lewis Holden,

Really? I memorised the list too*, and I'm a republican.

Radio NZ's coverage this morning was revealing. Their journalist estimated only 1 in 8 commuters who'd heard of the engagement cared about it, although a couple were vehement in their support for the monarchy. Story of my life...

That pretty much sums up New Zealanders view on the monarchy, I think: ambivalent, with some staunch supporters making very loud public announcements of support.

*the one that excludes Oliver Cromwell and the Commonwealth of England, of course.

I just want to know if Prince William has a Prince Albert.

Failing all else, Ben, you could make it yourself.

  • Petra,

Oooh, now might be a good time to sell a couple of old Women's Weekly mags I have that contain special features on the wedding and engagement of Charles and Di. Trade Me, here I come! :-D

The Daily Mash has a nice take on things, methinks: http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/news/society/DREARY-WOMEN-GIVEN-SOMETHING-NEW-TO-TALK-ABOUT-201011163260/

  • jeremy gray,

Given that the BBC was forbidden from covering the royal wedding in 1923 in case "the service might be listened to by men in pubs wearing cloth caps", i am looking forward to the reason given for banning of youtube coverage.

  • Rich of Observationz,

I just hope she learns from her mother in law's example. Don't go driving through tunnels at 150kph with a driver who's had nearly as much coke as you have.

I can forecast with some confidence that - so long as you lot don't go apeshit - I'll actually be able to insulate myself from this thing without too much effort. Blame the new media environment.

  • Jacqui Dunn, in reply to Robyn Gallagher,

So if you do paint her, and you send it off to her, and she gets someone to send off an official letter to you, what's the bet she gets your name spelled correctly?

Pressing question: in the spirit of Brangelina, are they Kills or Wait?

  • HORansome,

I, for one, look forward to the conspiracy theories that will link the two dynastic lines to Skull and Bones, the Bin Ladens and possibly even the Wests (there's nothing that can stop ta claim of conspiracy, not even the fictional status of some characters).

Indeed, I might start hawking my new book "Kate and Me: How the British Throne Wants to Ruin My Life" now so it can be commissioned just in time for the Christmas rush.

  • Ben Austin,

HORansome - I suggest you look to incorporate the North American Union into your theory. I remember reading a website a year or so back where one of the NAU/Amero/Unification Highway types was certain it was some sort of plot by the Royal Family, by way of the Commonwealth members in the Western Hemisphere, to regain control over the USA.

Kate's family have a mail order business. Mail travels on roads. The NAU wants a unification highway etc

  • HORansome,

Ben, you are on to something. Indeed, this wedding is just a front to get the Amero off the ground.

Does anyone have conclusive proof that Kate isn't an operative for Brussels?
