They are not paying Eminems publishers any commercial respect, they have probably violated copyright laws.

The Eminem story
Second strike after National's previous piracy. Ironic but it's not as if breakfast radio will be emphasisng Joyce's lack of ethics any time soon. Whatever it takes..

“Know the results of the latest Gallup Poll? Half the country never even heard of the word Watergate, nobody gives a shit.”

Weeelllllll… if as they say they bought a commercial “soundalike” track licensed via APRA/AMCOS, I’m not actually clear whether the Nats are culpable for anything – unless they’ve been duped.
And then it's just unfortunate, not really a pattern of behaviour.

‘Dave Dobbyn and the Police’
I liked their cover version of "White Riot".
-
Last night TVNZ said they'd previously been in this situation with a Coldplay song and "Chariots of Fire", surely this 3rd strike means they're out?

Dismal Soyanz, in reply to
May need a lawyer's input here but the liability would surely still rest with the Nats even if they bought the rights in good faith. I would have thought National would then have grounds for suing the company that "sold" them rights.

CJM,
Apologies, posted this in wrong thread.
Just listened to Key on RNZ with Ryan talking about mass surveillance. Incredible really, on friday he was apparently unable to specifically mention anything about anything to do with spying. Now, five days later, he’s describing in detail how ‘Speargun’ was implemented to the point of construction and fitting onto the south pacific cable. His analogy was bizarre, describing it like a ‘car muffler’ which the government and the covert surveilers ‘attached’ but just to see if it ‘fit’!
Yup, that’s what I always do. Buy exhaust mufflers that have been developed and researched and designed and built and marketed then I pay a mechanic to install the muffler. We then stand back and look at it and discuss whether it fitted. If it does I get the mechanic to uninstall it because, you know, actually driving around in the car with the newly installed muffler is just an insane proposition.
Yes. -
Frankly I'm appalled. there is a system which captures all communications traffic and stores it for future analysis. This system is used by at least 4 other countries to protect them from real and present danger. our Prime Minister tells us he didn't allow our spies to use it because it seemed a little too intrusive. How irresponsible is this man? he is placing us in danger of TERRORIST ATTACKS, we have no defence, he should be held to account and sacked immediately.

Brodie Davis, in reply to
That is truely insane. Maybe thats how being super wealthy works. you go to the window shop purchase some new windows for your house, get the glazier/builder to install them to make sure they fit, and then put the old ones back in. Just so you have some spares or something.
Why the fuck would we even need a multiterabyte fibre tap, if it wasn't going to be installed, or there wasn't another one somewhere.

Key: Snowden "may well be right"
Prime Minister John Key has acknowledged that NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden's claim that New Zealanders' data is accessible through the controversial XKeyscore system "may well be right".
However, Mr Key maintains that information will not have been gathered under any Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB) mass surveillance programme as the agency doesn't have that capability.
-
O'K... we're probably spying on all of you.
Prime Minister John Key says he can't give an absolute assurance New Zealanders are not subject to mass surveillance by the US National Security Agency (NSA) but he is "comfortable" that is not happening.
-
Trevor Nicholls, in reply to
he is "comfortable" that is not happening
The Prime Minister is of course such an ordinary man that if he's comfortable, the rest of newzild should be comfortable too.

The real deal I got from Greenwald is that trader John is trading our information gathering potential, something which he isn't allowed to trade without our consent.
Big brother style watching was a major part of the east/west political divide in the rhetoric of the cold war, freedom from government spying was our thing right up to the demise of the old Soviet Union, yet here it is, all freshly re-packaged by the west as "the war on terra." The Nanny state can read your personal letters but only if "you is bad. This is nannying at its most oppressive level.

With both Labour and National courting NZ First/Winston Peters support I'm grateful Act are unlikely to be part of such a coalition: http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11326574.

Selwyn Manning, Perceptions Of Corruption Damaging To New Zealand’s International Reputation –
It is not Glen Greenwald who has sullied our reputation, National managed that all on their own. -
CJM,
Hmm, wonder why I'm not surprised the National Party is involved….

So symptomatic of National’s economic miracle. How on earth they managed to get 60b in debt while cutting down those in need and selling us off, it boggles the mind.
