And if I may advertise a little more:
I just noticed that the Felt.co.nz banner that is occasionally at the top of these threads features the crocheted Russian dolls my Amy makes. -
I just this minute saw what I NEED: an angry mob playset.
Either that, or anything from the sportreview.net.nz Zobmbie Gift Guide from a year or so back.
-
I have to buy my own presents.
Top of my list is a new car and Guitar Hero: World Tour.
I think I'll treat myself this year and buy the latter today or tomorrow.
-
I'm considering celebrating Dies Natalis Solis Invicti this year - the pagan "birthday of the unconquered sun" which was celebrated on Dec 25th (the taekover of this date by Christians for Christmas is still contentious)...
It just sounds like something I really should celebrate. The lack of conquering of the sun is a real highlight...

Zapp Brannigan Ray Gun!
Ooooh, that is nice and much cheaper than this beauty that I want-mas from Weta Workshop (USD5,000!)
-
A friend of mine owns the FMOM Wave Disrupter. It's very nice, but bloody heavy

For Xmas this year I want the things that I nominated for TAWAs to win, and I want everyone to come along and have a good time on the night, and for us to become rich and famous.
Also, I really really want a giant moosehead from Wanda Harland that's made of little bits of plywood like those dinosaur skeletons I'm sure you all used to have that you put together yourself.
-
I want anything from Swonderful. And I want a good book, not the good book, but Scar Tissue by Anthony Keidis. I'm told it's a great read. And this is my first xmas (pretty much) away from my mum, so by midday xmas day I'll be wanting my mommy and her home-made pav!

Lots of lovely book vouchers. Or Malcolm Gladwell's Outliers. But I may buy it for someone else instead!
Turkey for dinner (Croziers turkey naturally - my Ash-Vegan connections to the fore!)
And I second the suggestion to visit the Felt website - they have some lovely stuff there. I met someone at the English Park market on Saturday, and saw some of the lovely stuff in person.

I know it's technically too late to order things from overseas for Christmas but I would quite like some Actual Size stickers.

It's always nice meeting the crafters, they are lovely folk.

I would quite like things such as a science tshirt.
When I read this I assumed you were talking about one of the xkcd science shirts, which in turn made me think, right, I want the regex cheat skirt. But then I thought wait a minute, it's not like I don't own a credit card. So I bought it.
In summary, if you are Dr M searching the web in want-mas related desperation: neener neener neener.

I love xkcd but I want more of the maths jokes on shirts.

The other good thing about a want-mas list is anything not on it is fair game!

I actually bought some NZ wine that came with it's own USB key in the supermarket the other day - it was for a geek birthday party so it was vaguely appropriate - the key contained some promo for the vinyard
-
Hadyn, there are plenty of places with Maths t-shirts for example Maths T-shirts Assume you have checked out Think Geek.
Though one person's funny is another's 'seriously WTF'

As of this morning I may need a new espresso machine. Any recommendations for units under $1500 much appreciated...
-
Yeah but they are a little too geeky (if that's possible), and the physics jokes are funnier. I like the Factorial! one though.
I always wanted the shirt that said:
"snakes ε {R^2}"(Snakes on a plane)
-
Sue,
felt is like a craft market online, plus you know everything is handmade, which makes it all beyond awesome

A cheaper addiction?
-
Peter - I have this (about $950 from Altura). My research at the time suggested it was the best under the heat exchange/domobar beasts:

Great for a couple of cups at a time - I can better most cafe's on it for that. Multiple milky coffees, it's a bit too finicky. But you can possibly get into the E61 grouphead/double boiler stuff for under $1,500 now? Not sure...

"snakes ε {R^2}"
(Snakes on a plane)
Triggers my Inner Crocodile Dundee, that does.
"That's not a snayk. Thees ees a snayk."

I hate to go really cheap, but Consumer recommended this $369 unit as top of the bunch for espresso machines
