  • Russell Brown,

Aw, damn. Congratulations on what you've done with Hindsight, Damian. It's been of a different order to yer usual retrospective show.

  • JacksonP,

Cheers Damian. I’m liking what I have been hearing of Best Coast on bFM. Also must get The Shins.

Time to focus on some music we don’t have to use Janola and a Brillo pad to get it out of our head. ;-)

Same here. Onwards and upwards, I'm sure.

  • Gary Chiles,

    Top show, Hindsight.
Have a hankering to see some of Ron Walton's In the Nature of Things.
Couldn't drag me away from that when I was a child.
I remember it as black and white TV science. But, it was actually science, in black and white, on TV.
I also have a vague memory of Brian Edwards interviewing David Frost? Late sixties, early seventies? Or I'm imagining it.

Always good to move on with the benefit of Hindsight :)
Shame about TVNZ 7 all round- we're just getting used to it and it's about to go: so much cool stuff. Great to hear you've got other projects-

Cheers. Is the upcoming housing epsoide about state housing?

  • George Darroch,

I have to confess I've seen it just once, having lived in Auckland a little in the last year, but only in a house without Freeview. What I saw I enjoyed.

A genuine loss - it amazes me to think there are people who think a nation can sustain a meaningful existence on Police Ten Seven and Two and a Half Men. Genuine understanding of the country and world we live in is not merely "nice to have", it is essential.

  • Damian Christie,

@Tony - not really, no - more about the development of our 'quarter acre dream' mentality, starting with the 40s housing crisis, 70s money shortage, property boom etc. Good footage though :)

Damian, is Heartland available for purchase, or if not, will it be made available later on?

  • Damian Christie,

@Ben - you mean Hindsight, or Heartland? I assume you mean Hindsight unless you're moneyed up and looking at purchasing a channel?

No plans to make Hindsight available for purchase on DVD I don't think - realistically the market for such things make it only worth it for the big series like North, Coasters etc. However it will be repeated ad nauseum on Heartland, so it's not quite consigned to history, just the history channel :)

heh. I certainly considered it. Interestingly, there's a lot of stuff from the 60s and 70s around censorship and Govt interference with NZBC.

Mate there's ONE episode of that saved in the archive, I've got a copy coming up.

Also, it appears it was Ian Fraser that interviewed David Frost, not Edwards, but that's not to say he didn't, just that the Fraser one is the only one still in the archives.

Flick me a message with any other recollections re In the Nature of Things and we'll make it happen :)

...And the rest of you, I'm serious, tell me what you'd like to see again and I'll try and do it. TV, that you want, like in the old days. You know, that thing you all complain about not having ;)

I wish there was a proper index of Hindsight episodes, not only for suggestions but to watch them again (hint).

Suggestions from a point of ignorance of what might have already been covered: Publishing in NZ (books, newspapers); public transport (Rail, buses, ferries); gambling or prostitution (Hindsight Underworld?).

@Will, Hindsight you can watch to your heart's content at tvnz.co.nz/hindsight - they're all there. :) And there's a rail one coming up...

@Sacha - sorry, I meant tell me any old clips you'd like to see for my "This Week in TV History" series, Hindsight topics are already locked and well under way.

That's what I meant too - thinking short. Just not aware what clips there might be in archives, given that they aren't public. Not expecting many; probably the opening of an institution or some basket weaving.

  • Danielle,

items that appear to be some esoteric 70s experiment in documentary making that doesn’t stand the test of time

I think *we* should be the judge of that, young man!

(What I've noticed from watching From the Archives on Heartland is the glacial pace of everything. It often has the vibe of a five day test. Which is rather pleasant in its way, but brings home to me what a different sort of headspace I inhabited as a child.)

Whoops. Yes, I meant Hindsight. I blame the distraction of the London Spring (the weather, not the grass roots revolutionary movement)

Pity that it won't be prepared for sale, but as you say, it wouldn't really be viable. Will it be put on a tv/web replay system at some point?
