It is the 144-pack abs that are really gross.

Regarding the female gaze in the media at the moment, I had a bit of a discussion about that in my own Dreamwidth journal just last week ... and yes, Angel totally sprung to mind for me as well.
I'm just surprised it's taken this long to fill the void that Playgirl left, although it seems that the new mag is a bit more indie and less twee than anything from the Hefner empire.
Also, with all the written smut being pumped out now, in romance novels, urban fantasies, and fan fic, it really shouldn't be a surprise that some women want some visuals as well.
Well, I'll go pimp it around my Kinsey-4-and-below mates - I'm sure they'll enjoy some new eyecandy.
-
I asked many, many people how they would prefer to consume the product that I had in mind. They said, "Everyone else will want it online, but I'd prefer it in print."
plz tell me how this differs x-actly from that revelation uniquely provided us by what amounts to the first moment of religious time, in which immediate consumptiopn is deferred - de-furred? - in inexplicable favour of a wholly imagined possession?
-
an imagined possession that is which can now only be designated anew upon the scene to which we are collectively all now present, by that sign which is judged to be 'beautiful' enough to defer conflict onto a, a, parallel plenitude?
-
But what this central figure "says" to the periphery in the originary event is the substance of what Jesus would articulate as morality: "You are all equal, because you all imitate me." This message of peace is in effect a call to war; the central figure affirms its difference from its peripheral imitators in the act of denying it. There is no escaping from this impasse any more than from any other variant of the foundational human paradox.

Have to admire the surrealism of the underlying metaphor.

Aussie pornographer Ms Naughty has a great round-up of the media response to Filament's launch, and why it's so bloody annoying. If you go in through this link rather than the front page, you shouldn't hit anything too NSFW.
The author then goes on to say that if women do like porn, it’s because we’re embracing the “laddette” culture and trying to be blokes. She declares that “leering at pornography aimed at women” is “as innately unfeminine as drinking yourself senseless.”
Ah yes, “femininity”. That word so often used to put women in their place. I’m sure I speak for porn-loving women everywhere when I say: Fuck off, Olivia Lichtenstein.
You don't actually have to love porn to find a woman universalising her own experience in order to erase other women's really fucking annoying.
-
i'd go along with that almost wholesale, EH, adding to it if may the general, dare i say it, even glaring observation that indeed, until each woman does learn TO express whatever she imagines to be her v own sexuality, she'll be fodder for 'objectification' in the always already pre-churned minds of men, and this without even getting to the awful matter of any individual *experience*, which experience must now, paradoxically, seek to re-present itself in such a way that the scandalizing particularity of the thing might be dissolved in the 'universality' of the representations that have provided it with the means-of-expression in the first place!
little to do in the meantime but well and truly LOVE & support porn, that it should continues to do what it already does almost indefatigably, represent all possibilities of each one of us finding a place upon the human scene-of-representation, even as flesh collides with word and word collides with flesh and..
(.. and Sacha superstitiously waves her "underlying metaphor" )wand!

Just so.
But... umm... try telling that to someone like Cactus Kate. Though the Queen of Thorns has an admirable takedown.

Regarding gazes - many years ago my husband looked at a picture of Claudia Schiffer in the newspaper, and then turned to me and said, "You know, Claudia Schiffer is a very intelligent woman."
I would just like to say that Daniel Craig is a very intelligent man.
That's all.
I know I've said it before, but I will say it again. I luff you, Deborah. That made me laugh out loud.
Fear not, Ms Wegan, for it is my belief that the most attractive thing about a woman is an air of confidence.
Wordy word mcword. You can take all that bollocks about face-hip ration or whatever, and shove it. Having said that, being over forty sucks sometimes. There's only so much confidence one can have when one is dying for admiring glances from young, lovely, men. I might have to start wearing red lipstick.
-
WHATEVER you do, do NOT start wearing red lipstick
it's gotta be like lavishing volcanic baboonerites on the very instrument
of yr finest, firmest self-emanation..
-
the proper use of lipstick was amply demonstrated by that man Little who now languishes in a Florida jail for the advance of his pornographic enterprise - with such pens he drew freehand, anarchically and mainly madly childlike all over every orifice in view..
do i have your active dissent on this or what?
-
@Jackie
As it turns out, we got Quantum of Solace out today, for viewing tonight, after les enfants are in bed, of course.
-
ah! that means he's intelligent!
cos he only comes out when all the chilluns are in bed!what a weird and totally f**ked up situation..
just whose is the solace then
the 'kids' or the 'adults'? -
OK, who's moderating the troll this time.

You Bugger. The origin of that line has been bugging me all day, because I knew I should know it. Eureka moment walking up Mt Vic this arvo.
Good ol' Vogon Poetry.
-
Ah, brilliant!
-
Good ol' Vogon Poetry.
Which is particularly weird given that (on my screen) the troll has somehow posted 42 times.
-
That is uncanny - and will forever top out at that number of posts, given our troll's recent banning.
-
Must be Thursday...
-
I'll get my towel.

Just as well we lost lil p, reallly, I was struggling to resist the temptation to start addressing him as Paula.
