There you go, an excellent streetview-real world mashup. Like a gorilla-gram only techier.
Or you could organise a parade, if you were feeling kinder.

Or a KKK rally & (faux) lynching!
OK, I'm probly getting carried away with this.
-
Oh and they turned around before they got to Milford sound you can see why though
Possibly not summer.
-
I'm excited that you can see my bed in the photo of my house.
And what's that round back? Could it be ... a Tiki shack?!
-
They bypassed my flat suburban street and the flat suburban street I grew up on. Now feeling thoroughly slighted and sulky.

After a miserable week, antibiotics
I've had so much fun with google that I completely forgot my immediate reaction to your post, Russell.
Does this mean that you are a lot sicker than you intimated last week? Or is your doctor not up to speed on how to treat influenza?

Classic view of Whale bay and indicators in Raglan. Looks like a perfect Raglan set coming in.

Here's an 'interesting' image
Hiro Protagonist, wondering which element you were picking up as 'interesting'. In Edendale, Southland; the intersection nearby makes access there quite complicated - state highway goes on a large bend there, trucks going all directions, train tracks, the cheese factory across the road etc.

Luxury.
18 km on my bike. Each way.
Sometimes I took the long route.Cool. Both ways you went past my Aunt & Uncle's farm, but the long way was past the front gate.
Respec ... those roads are thin in places and I know that I go like a bat out of hell around some of the blind corners.

Just in case: cow pats fresh from a cow are about 2 degrees warmer that your blood temp. But very quickly they loose heat and 20 minutes later you loose on the deal, unless you want the job of warming cow-pats with your feet?

Aidan, does that mean the farm runs from Makino Road through to Kimbolton Road? Might I know them?
The long way was a great ride on a sunny morning, and the winding roads were a lot more enjoyable than one long straight one. And riding up Cheltenham Hill was an excellent fitness challenge.Teenagers think they're immortal. I was entirely unperturbed by cars hurtling around corners, and I enthusiastically soaked up the slipstream of truck and trailer units.
Ian, if you explore the science too adroitly I risk having my fetish exposed.

Thanks for the review Russell, I'm sorry I missed it, particularly the stunt clown stuff....I can only forlornly hope they make it to London....
Interesting that the review you linked to mentions a drunk bald guy yelling at the top of his voice.....there's one person I know that fits that description perfectly!

Well I did the obligatory 'see my flat woohoo!' tour, and fired off an email to friends o'seas with links showing where I lived.
On the subject of time travel, I am quite pleased that street view managed to capture these industrial heritage buildings before they were knocked down by Westfield - a crying shame in my book - they would have been great in the 277 mall extension.
-
How do you get that split screen with both street view and map at once?

Google Maps is so much fun.
I couldn't find my old apartment in downtown Osaka (I couldn't get down the street), but I did rediscover this gem from the old neighbourhood:
Hotel Little Chapel Christmas (for lovers)

I'm not 100% up on the psycho-physical operations of this...
But I'm thinking, that as long as the cow-pat remains warmer than the surrounding air temperature, the foot inserter might feel like they are winning on the deal, even if technically incorrect?

I fondly recall the favourable impact of a freshly delivered pat inside one's boots during milking on a cold Taranaki morn. Taking them off later, not so much.
-
Immediately I wanted to see some cool NZ time-lapse mash-ups of Street View. (NB I could only get the .flv files to run.)
-
If this is who it looks like, this may be the NZ Google Street View jackpot. Outside Premier House, a woman with short dark hair, wearing a red coat. Helen, is that you?

It's very time travelly already, the maps. That bus doesn't park there anymore, those trees were trimmed most severly and haven't recovered well, the neighbour spent an age cleaning their tile roof (after being immortalised with the more intertesting weathering patterns, heh).
Not even a year old and so much looks out of place to a local.
The old swing bridge hardly shows up in the picture at all, but that bus would've made the google car tread gravel for a moment to get a proper shot of it, and they might just have had orders not to. Oh well, amazed the place is there at all, really; commendable job.

Got piles of ugly green piping stacked outside my place as a reminder of obnoxious protracted roadworks a few months back.
Note to any Googleistas in these parts - do check local Councils for timing and avoid immortalising streetworks, if that's possible. Some neighbourhood changes just aint attractive. <drinks coffee, feels more generous of spirit>

Yes, but if they don't put a time stamp on those photos and keep archiving them when they are replaced, it won't be any sort of historical record but rather something meaningful only to those who can place the latest image in time. That would be a shame, but I see no indication they plan to introduce a time dimension - it isn't the case already with Google Earth that goes through regular updates.
I want that feature!
-
That is some freaky arse shit. I wish you could invert the mouse, like you can in first person shooters. This is going to be sooo handy for travelling around strange places.
-
I do hope the Goggle Earthers aren't coming down my street before the next inorganic collection. Damn, that's not pretty.
