They're often written off as pretentious ethereal wank
But pretentious etheral wank cannot be written off. Because it deigns to ignore those who might be writer-offers in its quest for summum bonum. Oh, and because there is no 'i' in 'needs to be loved.' Meanwhile, Kyuss Lives! in May.

Greg Dulli has the voice of a complex, deeply introspective angel that has taken drugs.

loving that adults track actually. Great to see Gary Sullivan again too.....it's a dead cool song. And thanks heaps Russell for Travelling Grave, just listened to it before starting work on what is finally a sunny week in London - a great base for kicking off the day!
Man I don't know how I could have missed that gig......I can only blame the folly of youth and lack of understanding.......on the same old school tip though, off to Tackhead tomorrow night, a rare appearance but man those guys can play! Keith LeBlanc, one of the greatest drummers around.

Wow. Enjoy!

Still rates as one of my best concerts ever. Jealous much!

Morning update. Sense some ambivalence about The Adults track. Just played it loud for breakfast, and it's down with the kids, that's fo' sure. Spontaneous table drumming and air guitar FTW. Just sayin'.

Another Neil Young archival release from one of his country phases.
So, '84 & '85 concert dates with the International Harvesters.
Grey Riders was stonkin' (and maybe others). Some of it's maybe a little on the trad side, for me.I'm really looking forward to Archives Vol. 2 ( Time Fades Away 2, Chrome Dreams, Homegrown, etc.) :)
You're not just whistlin' dixie there. And maybe one day he'll relent and re-release the original TFA: my old vinyl copy is pretty scratchy now.
If you love that Neil guitar sound, try Rich Hopkins: social activism, genuinely nice guy, and a sound that just channels Neil ca. Zuma/Chrome Dreams/Stars n Bars period...

I'm always surprised that Mark de Clive-Lowe's funky self is never talked about here.

As I said in Twitterland, I *want* to like it. I am pretty easily won over when it comes to music. But basically... meh.

Hey Russell, for a future Friday post, can we ask people to list interesting podcasts that they've found?
Since I got an ipod last year I've been eating them up walking to and from work, but I've tried a couple and want to drop them, so I'm looking for other suggestions.

3410,

Don't hold your breath. ;)
In the meantime, there's a brilliant-sounding HDCD (unreleased so-called "test pressing", apparently) floating around, should you be inclined to look for it. -
Tim Michin's "Storm" finally came out in its animated form:
-
Lee Scratch Perry from forthcoming album, with Tunde Adebimpe (TV on the Radio) and produced by Bill Laswell. That should be good. If you like that sort of thing, which I do on a Sunday afternoon.

@3410. Have you ever looked at the Rust List. or Thrashers Wheat? Both good places for all things Neil. I actually have a burnt CD copy of Time Fades Away. Not sure of the source though.

PJ Harvey has a terrific new album out, Let England Shake, and Seamus Murphy has released a series of films to accompany it.
She is, dare I say it, coming from the same place as William Blake did when he wrote his Prophecies.
This is the title track:
…and the rest of the series has already been partly released or is about to be released. Just keep an eye on Youtube and use the right keywords when searching.
The videos remind me of Patrick Keiller’s wonderful Robinson films.

You can get to all the PJ Harvey videos through her Facebook page. They were putting up one a day throughout the week about 2 weeks ago. This album is definitely going to be in my top 10 for the year.

Ah, thank you.
One of the top ten of forever for me, I think.
... Just checked, and Patti Smith (Patti Smith!) loves the album too. Perfect.

On Friday 13th!

Tiki Taane nabbed in Tauranga for performing 'Fsck tha Police'. I wonder what Greg O'Connor & Darth McVicar would think?

This song is almost as good as Gravy Rainbow although the video is a bit rubbish.

Goblin Mix were my Favourite Band in the Whole World back in the day. It was pretty cool to be able to go and see your Favourite Band in the Whole World regularly!
