Newstalk ZB reports Winston is going to release the tapes at 2pm

I've found a precedent for Key's memory problems here - Losing memories overnight: a unique form of human amnesia.
So perhaps he wakes each morning thinking he's just had a cup of tea with John Banks. Poor guy - no wonder he's looking agitated.

Some journalists are producing considered, detailed analysis amidst the sideshow. Gordon Campbell exposes weaknesses around the proposed SOE asset sales, including interviewing economic commentator Brian Gaynor. Worth a read.

Tom Beard, in reply to
an honest Key voter
...no, I'm not going to bite.

Rich Lock, in reply to
So you're saying he's been running the country like that guy from 'Memento'? Explains a lot.

merc, in reply to
That is extremely significant.

I tip toed that, I am surrounded by Key fans actually ;-)

I predict that the tape will escape, today or tomorrow.
Yes, as Assange would put it, the information will seek freedom.
Peters has just announced he will announce the contents at 2pm, before his support has their afternoon nap.

Like most people, I’m tired of adding the suffix “-gate” to indicate any particular scandal. Couldn’t we call this one the Teapot Drone?

I’m bloody sure I’m on drugs
smoking the whole gun?

I thought we'd settled on Cuppa Hacker?

Toby's coining of #teapottapes has carried the day ever since

3 News is liveblogging Peters' utterances.

Interesting the extent to which Winston is still paraphrasing ... We demand quotes!!

I've been arguing for Teapot Moan scandal for a couple of days.
[On the assumption that either Key or Banks was having a moan about someone they didn't want released. -

I'm doubting he has them. It sounds like someone's given him a verbal summary and he's repeating that.

merc,
Dpf chimes in with a yawn and says the media have been played. The smell of fear palpable.

Pete Sime, in reply to
Even better. I was hunting around for an approiate rhyme.

Oddily illconsidered of him I thought. David's successfully put some distance between himself and National over the last few years, while never pretending he's not connected, but he'd be wise to stay clear of this trainwreck.
ETA: his strategy appeared to be to focus on other matters as much as he could and he'd already commented that he thought Key had mishandled it... why now jump into the fray?
-
merc,
Winston coins the problem for them beautifully...they are enchanted.

Or he could be being very cautious, whilst showboating at the same time. There is an outside chance of jail stretch.

And what if the tapes reached WikiLeaks or YouTube, or both? The only sure option left would be to take a leaf out of Hosni Mubarak’s book. And we all know how that turned out.
Also, all the personality cultists being drawn out of the woodwork and making very loud noises would be funny if the whole thing wasn’t so deadly serious.

Key would also not respond to a question from TV3 asking if he talked about “getting unbridled power”.
If MMP is not reinforced by a strong `Yes' vote and if a significant number of the electorate is persuaded that `Supplementary Member' is like MMP then we can truly look forward to near unbridled power. I do wonder if there is going to be a play around this issue between now and the election.
-
There's gotta be a downfall in here somewhere....
-
merc,
Constitution mentioned for first time on this issue on TV3 liveblog. Rather than a downfall I would like to see a shoring up against the ability for politicians to flaunt so many things, come from this.
It touches upon the abuse of so many basic rights that we thought were held evident for us.
