The very act of bursting the bubble is about finding common ground with others rather than living in our own universe.
I absolutely agree that finding common ground and a way to communicate that cuts through is crucial.
I absolutely disagree that they are currently going about it the right way.

I had an extremely difficult personal relationship with Willie for some time, because of my criticism of that ghastly radio interview (from which I don’t resile a bit) but he’s a complex character and it does feel a bit like some of his most vocal critics this week only know the one thing about him. But other people perceive a different person.
Sure, Russell. I don't find it at all difficult to believe Alison Mau that the man she shares a studio with five days a week has never treated her with anything but the utmost civility and respect.
But let's also remember that "one thing" Louise Nicholas knows about Willie Jackson is that on Radio Waatea he gave Clint Rickards an hour of clear airtime to call her a mentally unstable liar. An interview that got widely picked-up by mainstream media, and was far from the only time Jackson attacked her credibility and character. Nobody should tell her to just GTFO it and move on from that.
These things are not mutually exclusive. The world is full of bullies and abusers who can put the mask of decency on when it suits them. They'll cry and promise that this time they've changed. And sometimes, it's true. But it isn't often enough, that nobody should be surprised that some are meeting Jackson's promise he's going to clean up his act with some scepticism.

From my own ‘micro’ point of view, if I want my liberal bubble burst, I just have to go and stand in the queue at the local supermarket, and while I’m waiting have a quick skim of the front pages of The Sun, The Daily Mail, The Express, The Telegraph, The Times, and so on, and let the vitriol wash over me.
This doesn't count as "bursting your liberal bubble". This counts as "reinforcing my preconceived notions of people who don't agree with me".
If you really want to burst you liberal bubble, try talking (or even better, listening) to some people who voted Trump, or spend eight weeks working with pruning gang as a summer job (which is what my sister did after she overheard my nephew being a little snob with his mates), or something else that involves actually engaging with people who think differently from you.

It would be even better if it wasn't coming from people who sneer at those who have spend an awful lot of time listening to Trump and his supporters because they don't have a lot of choice in the matter.
I get that we live in a world where it is infinitely more offensive to call a bigot a bigot than to be one. And there's always going to be people like you telling women, PoC and LGBT to shut the fuck up every damn time they don't say what you want to hear.

Last time I was in a pruning gang it was all immigrants and students. Very high liberal quotient, not a lot of salty earth. How about you? What was your last experience of an eight week stint in a pruning gang like? I'll admit that it did not enjoy the work, it was poorly paid, boring and physically demanding, not to mention involving spending a fair bit on petrol to get to it. I did not see a future in it, nor did I meet anyone who did. The general opinion of people doing that kind of work is that anyone who could be doing anything else would be mad not to. Generally they were full of admiration and envy for people who seemed likely to be on an escape trajectory, whether they were liberal or not. Liberality was pretty much an irrelevance.
