The nikau-like thing is about the same height as my cat, I don't know what it is, but I think it's an exotic.

Geoff's probably forgotten knows more about plants than I'll ever know, but I'd have guessed phoenix palm except for the height. So without a more revealing pic I'm taking my cue from Sophie - cycas revoluta.

Phoenix palms. Got to be. While 'at least half a dozen' just sort of happened to be there outdoor cycads would be wonderful, not in Christchurch.

Tomorrow in the daylight I'll take a more descriptive shot. Here on the hillside it's very dry and very warm (heat reflects off the rock faces), and these lil dudes have a watering system.

Oh s/he's so lovely! I have great sadness that we've never taken many photos of our girl, Toru. But then, she was an explorer for most of her life - not a lot of photographic moments ever occurred with her that we ever saw due to her being otherwise engaged, elsewhere. And nowadays, she spends all her time sleeping, or just cruising, on our couch on the patio area thingy.

Thank you Jackie, I think she's very pretty, but I'm very biased. :-)
She's not young anymore, and I'm aware she may not have many more years. I was thinking this, sadly, when I was going to bed the other night, only to have her keep waking me up through the night with her crazy high-jinks. Obviously still feisty. :-) -
Hi Lilith. Going to show a couple of examples. These are not brill photos (as is often the case with moi) but the first is an idea of a phoenix hybrid and a Dypsis Baronii Palm and a Nikau all competing for space in our front yard. My how plants can get carried away when one is not looking. {:)

Next up, just cos I love our plants, One of the big cycads in the back garden. I think yours looks most like a Date Palm, so maybe Robellinii. That image is in the link above.
