  • Hard News: Meet the New Bob,

This just in: the reservation list for the Awards/Event is closed now. If you've emailed before now, you're in in theory, and in practice you'll need to get there before 7pm before we throw out the list and make it first-in-first-served.

  • Hard News: Meet the New Bob,

I'd like a category for worst name of a block of flats or houses.

And you had your chance to suggest that back in October!

  • Hard News: Meet the New Bob,

Be even cooler if my name was spelt properly :)

    Sorry, fixed now.

I also didn't realise my movements around Wellington were being tracked

We're trying to round up more celebrities for Wellington for you...

    b) as one of its much-loved sons I'm quite likely to sweep various "Best in Wellington" categories

That'd be interesting, given that you're only nominated in one category, although it's a pretty good one.

Speaking for the Wellingtonista, I'm very happy to announce that you can now cast your votes for what you think are the best things in Wellington. Please vote. There's lots of awesome prizes in it for you.

  • Radiation: Desperate Heroes,

Bikini clad girls bouncing along on exercise balls have no connection with burgers.

Or even Primo chocolate milk, which is what the bouncing ads are for. The BK girls rode horses in bikinis, and stood around in a laboratory, wearing white coats with their bikinis.

Young women are confident in the freedoms and opportunities they have these days so a bit of sexism doesn't bother them?

    Ugggh.

Americans believe that a $1 banknote is an essential part of a modern currency

Ahhhh. Well it is. Have you ever tried to tuck a dollar coin into a g-string?

  • Hard News: Spammer until proven innocent,

All starts with the refusal of Americans to accept that $1 is not a reasonable denomination for a banknote.

I can't figure out what that sentence means. Too many negatives. Does not compute. I just know that my time in NYC was awash with dollar bills, because my friend I was staying with was a waitress, and we drank a lot which meant slapping a lot of $1 per drink tips down on the bar.

also really love that the steadfastly keep the penny, despite the fact that basically they're not accepted anywhere

Why must you hate on the auldskool preppies, James? Without the penny, what would they put in their penny loafers?

  • Hard News: Spammer until proven innocent,

When I was LAX and waiting for a connecting flight to JFK, I realised that I'd left my new mp3 player on the AIR NZ plane, and after the airline people at the counter couldn't help me, and I'd had to go through an operator to work out how to use the pay phones (they need area codes, but there are no area codes posted anywhere around), I finally got through to some airport automated system, that asked me for the name of my airline.

    Me: "Air New Zealand"
    Machine: "You have selected Qantas..."

I think that's when I hung up the phone and thought about crying before realising that my plane was about to leave and had to sprint for it.

Why on earth would you use your ISP provided email address for *anything*.

I ask that question all the time too, but even more I wonder "why would people ever share an email address?" - the idea of doing that just totally freaks me out. If I was in a relationship, I wouldn't be sneaking around on my partner, and I'd happily cohabitate, have a joint bank account, share a toothbrush even if necessary, but an email address? No way!
