Hard News: Meet me at Camera 2: White, in reply to
I lived in Sydney for 11 years. Worked in Redfern, central city and other areas. Know what you mean, came home disillusioned. So tired of the prejudice..

An example that irks me in society.
T'other night on the news some doc had a medical tribunal hearing over his prescription of drugs for sports people regarding performance problems. He was issuing these pills for hormone enhancement for an enormous range of problems many of which were not related to the drugs ability. As he left this hearing he walked chatty with his lawyer to the escalator where a young woman was also approaching. She saw the 2 of them and stood aside so they could walk in front of her to embark on the escalator. WHY?? She was first. -

like thinking you are great on your bike forgetting about the tail wind going your way, you just don't notice it
I haven't worded as well as she does but it is a good analogyYou are not always aware of how easy your life is thanks to race etc
Ok as a brown person, it feels more like the tyres are flat on your bike, you get them repaired and check it out, all good ,go into pay the bicycle repair man and someone comes along when you are in the shop and slashes the tyres. The repair man says ''well they were fine when you checked them" another $10 to fix them now. One step forward two steps back.
Imagine being shy or autistic while not being white. No win ever. -

I loathe the pointscoring that goes on around some discussions of privilege
What are they? Genuinely interested in what you interpret them as.

Hard News: The epitome of reason, in reply to
From that, I now see why Mike Sabin waltzed into managing the Carrington Estate Golf course resort. Was wondering why he jumped into employ up here so quickly, when it's well known what he's been done for. Sad too that the whatawhiwhi park is making way for housing the Carrington Estate staff. That place attracted many campers. It's literally on the beach.
Ah well, all in the name of progress eh? -
532,000 viewers last night. Updated from Herald

Of course now it turns out JC was the most popular journo TV had! Why couldn't the Herald, or Savage for that matter, print this before today?
Ah, ETA, been linked to upthread so here's David Fisher with a nice write up about JC

As an aside, I want Campbell Live to live on and wish we had a charter that allows TV to flourish in Public TV like the BBC. As I suspect is usual, NZers will venture out and find alternative viewing pleasure and stick it to TV3 when available (or at least I already have).I emailed Weldon to voice my displeasure, signed petitions sponsored Action Station, I said they lost me whether they cared or not. Collectively ,it feels strong but individually, the dickheads won by predetermined opinion. Turning the switch off was delayed long enough to encourage apathy, which didn't work. Telling CL they had time to get a replacement in place was another lie. The Mazda sponsorship was the writing on the wall way back. Keep voicing displeasure whenever the chance occurs peeps. JC deserves that and his departure should not be in vain. NZ has been enlightened one more time. That I give thanks to .The more this collective voice can occur ,the better we are.People will wake up one day and lament this passing and then we can expect they treat all of us as equal.
