  • Hard News: Narcissists and bullies, in reply to Lucy Telfar Barnard,

women will somehow provide a civilizing influence (sorry if that’s not what you meant, Pops). But would they? Or will they feel the need to be more blokish than the blokes in order to ensure they have a career? Will they, like male officers, come from part of society that thinks that the standard of consent for women or girls who wear short skirts and/or drink alcohol is lower than for sober women in loose denim coveralls?

My (another of many) experience with a female cop around Ponsonby was that she was nasty, racist, and more inclined to mistreat me every time she entered my local than the completely drunk (admittedly friends) white male acquaintances. I got dragged off to the corridor outside the loos, with her male counterparts, then bag searched, every time she spotted me in there. I never had any reason for this treatment. The only other person to suffer the same attempted humiliation was a local self employed business man. He often would be joining me. Well, he was part Maori, I part Mexican. Same same in her eyes. she was one fucking bitch.
Another time, attempting to take a complaint to the Mt Roskill Police station......yerp, never saw my car again, Apparently, because I was working I should save for another jag. The people who had mine, seemed like a nice couple to her and well, they were not up for any warrants so... just let them keep it.
I will never trust the Police in this country. I wouldn't put anything past them, so this is why the likes of me don't bother with making complaints about rape.My dealings with the Complaints/Conduct lot, yeah gave up on them after their treatment of me. Too many times...

  • Hard News: Narcissists and bullies, in reply to Rageaholic,

Are there rules about the police having reason to believe that a person is going to harm someone and not stopping it?

Here is the Police Oath .

I, [name], swear that I will faithfully and diligently serve Her (or His) Majesty [specify the name of the reigning Sovereign], Queen (or King) of New Zealand, her (or his) heirs and successors, without favour or affection, malice or ill-will. While a constable I will, to the best of my power, keep the peace and prevent offences against the peace, and will, to the best of my skill and knowledge, perform all the duties of the office of constable according to law. So help me God."

So I'd say yes, the Police have a duty to prevent further rape from these sick teenagers.

However, after reading this|wiki entry on our PoliceI am not surprised that we have got where we are today.

Poor prosecution of sexual abuse cases[edit]

In 2008 there was a public scandal regarding the failure of police to investigate a backlog of sexual abuse cases in the Wairarapa. A police investigation, dubbed Operation Hope, reviewed 550 files in Wairarapa and 7000 child-abuse files nationwide going back more than 25 years. The investigation found that the police had failed hundreds of children reported as sexually abused by family members "through delays, poor investigations and improper filing".

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark McHattie, and 17 other police officers were investigated. Mr McHattie, then head of the Masterton CIB, claimed that 142 files had been reduced to just 29 in three months. However, the Independent Police Conduct Authority later found 33 had been "filed incorrectly" or "inappropriately resolved". Mr Hattie received an unspecified disciplinary "outcome" and has since been promoted as head of the Auckland CIB's serious crime unit.

These are not changed but kinda look like they are . They are probably more 3 or 4 tone tho. Then again there's always the black/white sheep.

  • Hard News: Moving right along?, in reply to DexterX,

he should just turn up and do the job he was elected to do and make no further comment on matters till the report comes out or a furher truck load of shit hits the fan<

He has been in his office , is that not doing his job?

Life will be a lot harder for his wife and kids – it is interesting how a “life event” (death of a relative, cancer, work ) reveals a person’s true character.

Life is like that for many many New Zealanders.
A life event may well show true character but Len Brown has had the help of the Media interpreting every instance of his life since his indiscretion and people deal with issues differently so I hardly think his true character has been allowed to show. Seeing as the media hounded him on day one of public appearances, and he attempted to answer all their questions, he has now got people saying he should stfu . As said above, he can't win.
I'm going to do him the courtesy of emailing him if I want to know anything about his civic duties as Mayor. He actually replies!

We were watching Question time t'other day and the debate on Banks had Meteria (after being ejected from the House earlier) doing a stellar performance about him being the conflict sandwich with SkyCity Casino. Its quite good to see Nactional grasping at hairs at the moment. Riveting TV. :)

  • Hard News: Everybody's Machiavelli, in reply to Russell Brown,

I’m starting to think that this could all turn out very, very badly for Cameron Slater.

Goodo. If Bevan has the smarts I think she has, then she is probably getting legal advice. In this instance she is now the woman scorned by team Palino. Lessons all round eh.
