  • Speaker: Colour coding Jonestown, in reply to Rich Lock,

Now I at least have the first inkling of a clue to what’s going on.

Nope. I’m going back for another read. So is Suthep the equivalent of Winston?
Oh and , fantastic photos. Nice lens or is that a fantastic phone Simon?

  • Hard News: All John's Friends, in reply to Keir Leslie,

(And of course there’s the ongoing damage to the parties reputations, the basic principle that Labour stands in every seat and offers to represent every New Zealander etc.)

Plus the whole 2 wrongs don't make a right and why should the ugly gutter politics manipulation have to win .MMP doesn't stand for "Mostly Manipulated Party". At the time I tried thinking of counter actions but on reflection, dirty is not a nice game to play so I think I was wrong. Sadly I figure if NZers want more of the stench then so be it. More the fools them I say. I will still vote for what I feel is fair in our society. Sometimes that may not help me but if it's fair and not greedy or selfish, then I'm okay with that and I believe history shows National will never have any of those 3 principles I look for.

and regularly holidayed at his Black Sea dacha.

Now, had Michael Joseph Savage managed to squeeze in a game of golf on said holiday, would that be a holiday? ;)

  • Hard News: Cranks, self-seekers and the mayor,

I know "Granny H" gets it wrong on so many levels when one is considering a morning read with the latte, but sometimes it throws up wee gems that make me feel that there is still hope in our small Nation.
    Good on David Fisher

  • Hard News: Making it up on smacking, in reply to Martin Lindberg,

Do you think it’s the English language that drives this need to beat children or is there something deeper in the Anglosphere driving this urge?

I get the impression that it is the adult's lack of being able to use any language to express their disapproval of their child's antics is what drives the adult to strike a child with frustration. To declare that hitting a child is a good form of discipline says to me that the English language may be too difficult for some.

    Plus, what Steven Crawford said.

  • Hard News: Lowering the Stakes, in reply to Matthew Poole,

but you would now be proposing that the impossibility of avoiding a collision occasioned by no bad behaviour of my own be indisputably my fault.

Yes, as (what I think is very powerful) the latest driving ad campaign for taking care whilst driving shows, all people on our roads can make mistakes, so a little more care, a little less speed ,can make a helluva difference..
As for trucks, they are only getting bigger, (thank you National) Stick the cargo on a friggin train, but at the same time I listen to the truck drivers I know and they too have driver problems. Their trucks are bigger and cars tend to believe they can pass without regard to the length of their vehicle, and they often don't see you (car or bike) as I have recently experienced when a Kenworth took out the backside of my car when 2 Lanes narrowed.to 1 on the SH1. This was all because of bad design in road building..

  • Hard News: We need to talk about Len, in reply to simon g,

The Clinton comparison can be overdone, but the core of it is the same: is it about the high road or the low? Is it about the constitution, or Monica’s thong? Only one of them really matters, but only the other one sells newspapers. The Herald has tried to blur the two, but I’m not buying it … in either sense of the word.

This, too is nicely put with the other nicely put bit RB mentioned.

  • Hard News: The judge is not helping, in reply to Sacha,

I didn’t think he was admitting as much as some others thought he was admitting

.I can respect that position as well.

Think RB knows how he meant the question to be interpreted.
Think WOCS answered how he believes that taking money to spread someone else's words that he just happens to agree with is fine. Likens it to capitalism even. All about spreading (his) words, for money via someone else's words who got money ....nothing to see here ,moving right along kinda attitude
Or just that He'll be your bitch as long as he agrees with the ends to the means.
He could pop in to clarify even?

    "Money, it's a hit
    Don't give me that
    Do goody good bullshit"
(Pink Floyd lyrics from the song" Money, from the very good album Dark Side of the Moon :)
