Don’t have to be sitting in the jury box to be asking why that boat wasn’t tracked down as a matter of priority.
Plus why when there was sightings of that boat (not Watsons) did the police not bother to look at those.
Because the Police are human, I suspect that closing a case would carry a certain amount of satisfaction, which could lead to Police fitting a suspect to the crime, especially if the suspect had form or was known to them.
As to Who dunnit? Could be random(like my thinking) which isn't too common here.But in Poras case, neither him nor Rewa knew Burdett, yet a fair amount of murderers do know their victim. We don't get a lot of murders per head of population in New Zealand.
Thing is, with the Justice system of "proven beyond reasonable doubt" if it's doubtful, then not guilty. The Crown prosecutor needs accurate proof/evidence. The Police have shown that some of their work is shoddy if nothing else. -

With regards Lundy, his lawyer Malcolm Birdling did comment how difficult it was to get it to the Privy Council mentioning cost being a big part of it.
His bail hearing is tomorrow -

I’d throw the Peter Ellis (Christchurch Creche) case in with that lot too.
Teina Pora case is heading to the Privy Council. A case which I would thank investigative journalism for. It was refreshing to see what I think is sadly lacking in that field.

Yes, we need to change our laws and perceptions so that rape (and there are also others e.g assault) can be understood for the huge problem that it is. Sexual connection for adults without mutual consent is rape. Don't get me started on what the cop said recently about a young child being raped, being consentual, that was the culture we are seeing in our Police Force too often, that's another area that needs addressing and quick.

If we make laws that are not open to interpretation as juries can do, I think that's a start. If we make children aware of what is not tolerated as a society instead of saying, "it happens so lock yourself up", that could help to bring about change,. I get you only want what's best for your kids, I get that warnings should be part of that for your kids, as I get that Dylan doesn't feel comfortable being lumped in with "all men are potential rapists" normalising the behaviour of a criminal, and inflicting blame on those that don't fit the category . Trouble is, that's where we have got to in our society. One way or another we need to address our appalling statistics and our laws. Saying "what did you expect...." wont change the fact that a crime has been perpetrated and the law is an ass. It would have been helpful if the Judge had explained that.

I’m all about using non-jargon terms (as it still is) when plain English really isn’t overly cumbersome in this instance.
The TV news says "may disturb viewers" That works for me.What you have said works for you seems totally understandable for a wide range of viewing.Because it seems wide ranging I get what RB was saying now. I am beginning to feel glad I don't tweet or enter forums much. PAS takes up enough of my time :)

We all leap in and start firing things around and forget that that might not be so great for some of us.
Alot ;) Also the old jumping to conclusions can be easily misconstrued because someone forgets a winky eye . I just heard a woman called Denise Ritchie (I think)on bfm discussing exactly this. I only heard the last few minutes but she said she would like to engage in talks with Jones without jumping down his throat because she thought it beneficial to addressing the problems in NZ. She had lots of fact and figures and mentioned “Stop demand” so I guessed she may have something to do with that.
My point on shouting earlier was to inform that in the 2 cases I experienced, the shouting about it helped me healing and protecting myself.But I do agree the “leaping in and Firing” on the blogs or the tweets can be quite upsetting for others.
ETA My shouting was to everyone at the party and pointed him out immediately, and Physical defence as I ran telling others of the man around the corner. I was young and figuring life out and computers were sooo young back then so shouting was all I had.the Police back then didn't like us punk rockers much then either. -

She seemed to feel that the louder voices, were being heard, though, and not the quieter ones.

As Dylan noted above, his situation had indecision amongst his jury.
I have a loud voice. It has helped me to avert unwanted attention, that, and physical ability to protect myself in that incident . It was another incident where I wasn't fortunate that gave me the very valuable lesson to shout and relay the experience immediately.I believe that helps mentally as well.
We need to teach all kids from a very young age, preschool, then repeat in school school. that sexual connection is by mutual agreement only. Then all indecent assault will be easy for a jury to understand. Guilty.
Bob 2 not Sir Bob, Could you start by telling your kids that. It is natural that parents try to explain to their children how to be safe and I suspect it frightens parents at the thought of them not preparing these kids for venturing out into the unknown. Noone deserves ill treatment on any street ,park, party wotever. Clothes, places, do not make for the bad situations we end up in, it's people and bad people.Prepare your kids for this but if your kids are good kids, it wont be their fault.Would the Herald be standing by "freedom of expression" Lets face it, journos and opinionators there have me screaming all the time, then they had the audacity to send me a letter offering a free sub for 5 weeks, into the bin that went.
