  • Hard News: Yet More Hobbit,

So Parker was a last-minute retrofit?

I'm not sure if the Elves of Lothlorien were at Helm's Deep all along. It would have seemed to be difficult to add them in after they finished the hellish night shoots that comprised that part of the movie. I think they just removed Arwen dominated scenes and photoshopped her out of scenes that they kept.

    For true geeks.

  • Hard News: Morning in Auckland,

However, I'm also noticing that some of the spelling/grammar/punctuation is of a very low standard, so I'm guessing there's not much intelligence going into the mix....or am I being altogether too precious?

In a thread attacking someone for making racist judgements, I'm not sure if spelling/grammar/punctuation should be used to make judgements about people's intelligence.

  • Hard News: Some sort of pun on "Groove"…,

Groove Guide does appear in Dunedin cafes etc, and we no longer have a Real Groovy.

It (all?) seems to be online here: http://www.realgroove.co.nz/Gigs.aspx

  • Hard News: Yet More Hobbit,

I can only presume it was Parker's very elven looks, and ability to deliver even awful lines with conviction, that sold it.

I would never have imagined that it was done for Parker.

Given that it was originally filmed with Arwen at Helm's Deep, I was imagine if it was done for an actor (and I'm dubious about that) it was done for Liv Tyler to try and overcome the small female roles that Tolkein created.

She was then cut out of the scenes entirely, there's been comments that she asked to be taken out, I've heard that she was just awful at it so they had to cut her out.

  • Up Front: Staying Civil,

Yes, because that is so what I was saying.

Well it looked like you were saying "it resolves itself because there aren't really children in NZ to be adopted". Hence my question. Feel free to, y'know, clarify.

I'm blessed by being with one of those ones that's only a member for the perks.

    Free wine at communion?

What ever happened to tracing. Jordan Luck reminiscing about the olden days before photocopiers made things so much easier.

  • Up Front: Staying Civil,

Are there any NZ children up for adoption?

Well for starters, yes, but the numbers are 'small'.

But... rights not important because you're not using them this week? Really?

Does it mean you have to be married to adopt? How about single parents?

I think we're currently in some stupid situation where gay people can adopt as solo parents, but not if they're in a stable civil union relationship. Someone might correct my memories if they're wrong.

I have no idea what to make of it.

Union organisers wouldn't tend to take leave in the middle of a large dispute like this. Either he's not really involved, or... who knows.

Are the Police at War? If so, who with?

I'll mention that to the RSA next ANZAC Day.
