For sure, Russell.
Spitting at people is (apart from being rude and unhygienic) utterly counter-productive, and it only makes sense as a manifestation of enmity. It is Bad Protesting. Gracefully ignoring it is Good Policing.
Letting violence take place under your nose and allowing the perpetrator to wander off? Bad Policing.

"The guy who advanced on Richards jabbing his finger needed to calm down a bit, but what Richards did was inexcusable."
Len was in the crowd pumping out the megaphone message in the face of the crowd. Never a fun experience - so was the guy defending himself from the noise or wanting to speak?
Len was in a bad place to be productive & did Helen Clark mention he & Jill are in a relationship?
I was a bit snarky but not angry. The only thing worse than EMPU selling out for Littles political future with Labour in my experience has been SFWU select members feather bedding hmm biter yeah.
Past experience in CTU is no predictor of future actions - Reptilian Shapeshifters?

Probably. But when you look at the One News video, taken from the police vantage point, you have to wonder if they fully grasped what had happened. The fact that they agreed to investigate as soon as they saw TV3's pictures suggests that too.
The guy who was (somewhat unfairly) arrested, on the other hand, tackled Richards as he was beating his retreat, right under the noses of the police. There'd probably have been a fight if they hadn't intervened there.
But given the remarkable composure of the cops over several hours (check out TV3's extended video), I'm not too inclined to bag them for that incident. If Richards finds himself charged after the fact, he's only got himself to blame.

WTF would that have to do with it?

The "past" in this case being last week, when the CTU made its resolution. That's what Ovens apparently wanted to say to them, although in retrospect she was clearly unwise to think the champions of free speech would actually let her do so.

Ah. So video referees have wider application than just sport...

Heh. I was thinking : yet again TV3 gets the best pictures ...

RB - WTF would that have to do with it?
So why did you include that in you opening of your new thread?
That peoples relations do play a part in their actions - Clarks defense for Mallards attack, an interesting insite as to why he clocked Mintos partner?CTU have lost their credibility Len & Jill aren't helping that any right now either.
Russell are you answering the call to fill the Labour ranks?

Er, because he was defending a ladies honour, which therefore qualifies him for some special 'understanding'??
I predict he'll get diversion.
-
You know, I can't quite see how his acting like a male appendage, and not entirely coincidentally helping the protesters to wipe the actual issues at stake off the media, helped to uphold Jill's honour in any way.
Certainly not in any way that would cut any ice with HC!
-
So why did you include that in you opening of your new thread?
Um, because it's a fact. You've mentioned it in several posts as if it's some kind of secret.

Well, duh. What happened to Ovens quite obviously is what made Richards lose his temper. She was given a megaphone by an organiser but never got to speak because the dimwit tendency among the protesters wouldn't stop chanting "Lies! Lies! Lies!"
CTU have lost their credibility Len & Jill aren't helping that any right now either
On what basis are you saying the CTU has "lost its credibility"? Do you actually know anything about the CTU?
And who are you planning on denouncing tomorrow, Michael?

And SFW? Don't know why this needs repeating but OVENS WALKED AWAY - RICHARDS WENT AND MADE AN ALREADY HEATED SITUATION WORSE. Call me a pompous old stick but I think everyone has a 'reasonable expectation' of being able to open their mouths without being screeched down by a pack of screeching numbnuts, but I'll be pleased if Bronwyn Key and Mary English resist the urge to get KIll Bill on anyone's ass.

He did, but I thought I'd said as much. I was addressing Michael's dark mutterings about an "interesting insite" into Richards' actions wrt Ovens, which seemed completely obvious to me. He got upset because his partner didn't get a hearing, got into a stupid screaming match and then did something stupid and dangerous.

Bollocks. TV3's vision came from an indymedia guy with a handicam. Their shooters actually missed it. The TVNZ track was much more revealing, and got some great stuff of how intimidating and provocative the protesters were. As someone who shoots for a living, its fair to say that TVNZ kicked butt that day. In fact, they also bet TV3 for the better vision of the hunt for the escaped prisoner in Wellington as well. In both instances, TV3 had to rely on amcam to get them out of jail.

Fair enough. Richards should just be thankful he's not my partner, other wise he'd be in his very own am-dram production of the __Lysistrata__. :)

Ah. Thanks for that. Still, I presume the stuff in their extended clip came from their own cameras?
What One needs to do is follow 3's example and start treating its website as a stand-alone news medium. That wild footage they posted is choice.

Consistency Russell.
You can't rubbish my question which leads to the OTT actions of Len and latter state it as fact without losing credibility. -

or objectivity it would seem

Michael, your posts could be described as many things but "objective" is certainly not one of them. I wouldn't get into that argument were I you.

Heh. I'm scared just thinking about it ...

I've linked to here before but a tank is a weapon in itself (without the gun)
http://www.tanksforeverything.co.nz/gallery.phpHere are many normal people getting a thrill out of playing solider for a day.
Tanks in the states have been stolen and used to cause great damage (ended nasty for a few of the drivers).
I really question the "right" anyone has to own one of these - fun as they might be. -

Well, I question the need for anyone who isn't in the business of killing people to own a gun that is clearly just for killing people (ie not suitable for hunting, like say a Luger). But apparently there are people out there, and I am related to some of them, who like to "collect" these things. Seems like a strange strange hobby to me, but then maybe they think whittering away in the comment forums of a website is bizarre too. ;-)

Moana Jackson, who is Ngati Kahungunu, has resigned his position as a Patron at the Royal New Zealand Police College in protest at the abuse of the human rights of innocent bystanders during the police operation in Tuhoe on October 15th and succeeding days.

Indy Media are calling for Cop-Watch - photos etc online of cops.
Too much hard word for me & if we want to stop the cops from doing it can't really drop to their level.
I do like the idea of many eyes in the street though with or without vids. Live in & walk the streets at night make it a safer place for all.
