  • James Butler,

I see I'll have to read PA from my FreeBSD box more often if I'm to beat your Solaris (SunOS) user. Consider this a challenge, unnamed unix user!

  • Robyn Gallagher,

I don't like all that bold text. It's like this shock romp with typography has turned Hard News into The Sun. It draws my
eye to places I don't want it to go.

Can't you just assume that readers can read and will honour your writing by just reading it, without the need for bold text to make skimming easy?

So when do we get a mobile version Russell? :)

Sorry. It just looked too dense (and I didn't have time to drop in any images), so I bolded up the key words.

  • Samuel Scott,

I love these sorts of stats. I'm going to go look up the Phoenix Foundation ones now. We had some really bizarre ones when Eagle Vs Shark was touring European film festivals.

Our mail subscriber email client stats are a bit surprising; 30.4% Apple Mail, 7% iPhone, 14% outlook...1% gmail

That gmail stat is the most interesting as a quick look through our list shows a huge number of gmail addresses. Which leads me to think that most TPF listeners have gmail accounts and mac computers and don't use browsers to check their mail anymore.

C'mon. Admit it. You're just trying to make it easy for those Wilson&Hortonists to turn this into a newspaper article ...

  • Ian Dalziel,

I don't like all that bold text

    whereas I...
...don't mind it. Used judiciously and constructively (as Russell has), it aids my simian navigation systems, scanning through the dense verbiage for branches of substance, rather than flailing through a blur of twigs and laterals looking for structure...

...though I wouldn't shun a comprehensile tail (for grasping tale content faster and firmer...)

    eyes left, as you were...
    ;- )

  • Emma Hart,

probably got here accidentally while searching for porn. I blame Emma Hart.

Oh, admit it, that's why I'm here.

Oh, don't tell it to me. Explain it to that poor bastard in Azerbaijan.

  • Jimmy D,

The stats (particularly unique users) are easily screwed by the heuristics being used - so little wonder that your internal log differs from analytics (which is likely to be more authoritative.) Still, glad to see Linux represented by over 3000 users!

There is really nothing I can do for anyone who can fail to find porn on the internet.

  • Mike Graham,

A couple of thoughts that occurred to me while reading the stats:
    1. Some of us (well, me at least) use IE at work and Firefox at home - so the numbers don't necessarily reflect the preference of the users - although they can't be far off.
    2. One corporate I worked for directed all Internet traffic to the USA before going outside its firewall, so some of your non-NZ visitors could well originate from NZ. Again, I don't think that this would be a significant number, and would probably just change the numbers to the right of the decimal point.

Tell me about it. The difference between the unique users counts of Nielsen, Google Analytics and our internal stats is remarkable. Unfortunately, miserly old Nielsen is regarded as the standard for advertisers.

  • Nick Melchior,

I actually read the site quite a lot from by BlackBerry here in Singapore so I'm surprised that 100% are new visitors. It might be the way the IP is calculated/assigned perhaps?

Sorry, I phrased that poorly. There was a bunch of new handsets amongst the new visitors count.

  • Julian Melville,

I would have been one of the HTC Android jobbies for sure - and also not logged in, because I would have been clicking through from an RSS reader to read the article/comments but not bothering to type a response from there.

Looks lovely on handheld BTW, very readable.

  • Russell Brown,

The most prolific traffic source that's not an ISP or network provider is … Wilson & Horton! Hi, guys!

It actually only just occurred to me that APN's network is still identifying itself out there as Wilson & Horton, which it hasn't been for ages. Funny.

Fascinating stats. I love Chrome, Firefox may as well be IE 6 by comparison.

Currently using IE 7 here, but it's always Firefox at home.

Haven't given Chrome a try yet...
