I suspect Judith Tizard is another victim of the Herald effect.
That and the gossip pages of the Sunday papers, which breathlessly gave Nikki Kaye vast amounts of free PR whilst snidely putting down the sitting MP.
-
Tom:
Considering some of the rather ugly vitriol being thrown at Nikki Kaye not a million miles from here, perhaps that's one moral high horse that should be left in the stable. If you don't mind.
-
So is this the official Friday Fun thread? In that case ...

Judith Tizard is the only MP I have really known to more than say hello to ... She is one of the kindest people I know.
Russell
Thank you for this, as someone who has also worked and (on occasion) socialised with Judith, I could not agree with you more. -

Um, where Craig? Could you perhaps once just let a point rest instead of reaching for the faux equivalence? Really.

Russell
I don't fully agree, but I'm not going to argue with you on this, as I don't know her personally. -
Simon: I kept checking to make sure that they were writing about our NZ. Though I have read similar views on some other blog sites.

Bloody, hell, Craig, did you actually mention a high horse? Because from where I'm sitting, you've been riding this wee pony for the last week or so, and it hasn't been a lot of fun to watch. In the matter at hand, your suggestion that this here board has the same duty to impartiality as the only major newspaper in the country takes some sort of cake, that I'll promise to have delivered to you as soon as you dismount. Jeez.

Love it:
New Zealand has a complicated and obscure voting system (for example, four parliamentary seats are reserved for Maoris, despite the fact few pure-blood Maoris still exist).

I had a wee glace to the left of the thread and noticed our recent posts have almost made a little story:
The End is Nigh...Again?
Walking Through The Ruins
The Art of the Deal
A Vile Curse on Thee!

I like cake. Just make sure you're pulled your head out of the horse's arse, and had a nice long shower first. (And could Mr. Key give me a new pony -- this one is walking funny.) I know it's Tom's hobby horse that the Herald single-handedly changed the government, but much as the truth hurts "blame the media" is somewhat unconvincing.

Good old Craig, reliably ignoring the point whilst bitching about how unfair the left is.
Another round in his usual one trick pony of claiming moral equivalence where none exists.
-
And speaking of saying something nice, I have to say Mr Trotter surprised me this morning. Hopefully his vitriol was an election tactic and we can expect more of this new tone...

Um, where Craig?
How about the thread where Kaye is described as "vacuous 28 year old"
-
Glenn, a favourite tactic of the kiwiblog sewer is to devote thousands of posts of the most vicious nature abusing their opponents then when challenged rush around dredging up single comments to justify a moral equivalence/
"Look! See! The PA fellow travellers of the lickspittle Liarbour scum lesbo-dykocracy called Nikki vacuous once on PA! ZOMG! We've got a free hand for vile abuse cos the the commie watermelons are just as bad as us!"

Judith is a very nice person Russell, I agree. Funny, smart, interesting, and genuinely interested in people.
But she wasn't doing well this last term as a local MP. Part of that comes from the bind of being in Government and therefore not being able to campaign the same way Kaye could - sitting Govt MPs are always at a disadvantage - they have a huge workload. And from what you say, part of it also comes I suppose from not being in the best of health.
But I have to say I haven't seen her around the electorate over the last 3 years except socially - and electorate MPs need to be visible. It's a shame the Party didn't think she deserved a higher list placing, as I suspect being a list MP at this stage in her life might have suited her better.
-
While I voted for Ms Tizard I did so holding my nose, eyes watering, fingers down the throat. And I told anyone who'd listen that mine was the grubbiest of tactical votes, cast solely to keep the Corran Head Girl out. Tizard was the worst MP in the house.
I knew this for a fact.
Because I'd heard all the fat, useless, lazy, stupid slurs and passed them on until I believed them to be true. Of course, my evidence was all third-hand recollections of second-hand accounts of other's observations. But, hey, what does this matter when you're running with the pack.
Shame on me.
And good luck to an evidently kind and compassionate person who (drag her to the stocks) likes a good party.

Tom: I thought I made it perfectly clear that I regard your point -- The eeeevil Herald is responsible for everything you don't like -- is horse shit. (OK, no more equine metaphors, analogies or references. Promise.)

I am well aware that Judith Tizzard could be a fantastic person, but if her performance on the portfolios was not up to what the voters expected, they are well within their rights to not vote for her.
And I guess thats what the Auckland Central voters thought, right or wrong.
I didn't see any advertising of any sort as to why I should vote for her, I received no information about what she had done for Auckland Central as the MP, and also as the Minister of Auckland. So the only information I had as her performance as a Minister was the copyright stuff, which I didn't agree with (even though it was supported by both parties), and I voted strategicly in a manner that was conductive to removing her from parliment. If that was something labour didn't want, she should have been further up the party list.
But to be honest, that was a failing on both National's and Labours election campaigns, on what the other side is doing wrong.
-
Judith Tizard the politician: Not sad to see her go, and I won't insult anyone by pretending otherwise.
Judith Tizard the human being: Long life, good health and happiness to her, and may she be a success in whatever she does.

Oh, bugger off Tom. Your little essays in Freudian projection are more than usually tiresome, and its nice to be lumped in with people I've got a lot of shit from over the years. You're all class - drop the C and the L, naturally.
-
And Craig, you can also be relied on to not notice that PA isn't the set for your personal online version of Priscilla Queen of the Desert, so if you could just tone down your vulgar screechings we might all get along just a bit better.
-
Tom & Craig: get a room. ("If you can't say something nice ..." - it's the title of the freaking post...)
Judith spoke at my Civil Union last year (she's a friend of my wife). After the usual speeches, the MC (another maligned female Labour candidate, but that's another story) opened the floor - there was a blur and suddenly Judith was holding the microphone... Afterwards, some of my friends said they thought she got a little political for a wedding speech, but I though receiving congratulations on behalf of the New Zealand Government was pretty awesome.
-
I know nothing about Tizard, though if she's next on the list she'll get in on specials.
But the comments around here in relation to her have seemed to be a bit of a case of sore winners. Good on you Russell for pointing out the other side.
-
Judith spoke at my Civil Union last year (she's a friend of my wife).
There's a sentence that contradicts, surely?
-
A version of Down in the Whole performed by Tom Waits with the Kronos Quartet.
-
Whole should be Hole. Obviously.
