The Fairfax profile of the hacker really does not sound like KDC, but given the hacker is giving away information about why he is doing it, and posting orginal things aside from only what was obtained from Whaleoil's site, My sweepstake bet would be within three weeks the police will have a pretty narrow list of suspects.

Matthew I suggest you listen to Kim Dotcom on Morning Report this morning pronto so you can stop spouting such oddities as
hacking into Helmut Kohl’s IT
(hint: it involves the German credit rating system SCHUFA :-)

Would this be the police who serve the NZ public, or the pleece who serve on Planet Key?

Well, if both Slater and the Labour Party complain to the Police about hacking it will be interesting to see how each case is dealt with, as it seems to me there are obvious persons of interest in the Labour Party hack.

If Corkery did do that on purpose to get the lead spot on the news then she’s an idiot. National couldn’t have asked for anything better than a reminder to wavering centre voters that the alternative to Key – dirty politics or not – is a government propped up by a bunch of nutty, angry activists.
Danyl, this scanned, to me, like something a Labour Party activist circa 1999 or an Alliance one circa 2002 might have said... Corkery's no idiot in my experience either.

No, she's not, but (having known her closely for 20+ years) that looked to me like genuine frustration with a pack of reporters behaving like jerks, not a pre-planned stunt. She'll be gutted that she lost it at them, as Harre said on the radio this morning, because it ensured that the coverage of policy was minimal by the media and that's the most important thing to any political press secretary. Also, that they were able to put her off her game. But remember, we only saw the bit that the media let us see. We don't know how long they were at her, trying to get just that sort of response, once they realised KDC really wasn't coming out to play.

Also, I could see at a glance she was at her last tether with them and it was a short sharp shove but I thought she pulled up quickly so didn’t think it was too bad. I knew though it was going to get played out immediately. The media watching would be loving it. Their antagonism is not actually acceptable. I would have exploded myself. Have to admit though. Harre is front and centre every Monday and as they say… There's no such thing as bad publicity. I think anyone interested in IMP know they aren’t conservative. The odd explosion or swear word wont scare them off. Doesn’t change my opinion of them. I like that they want to challenge our system. Might give them my Party vote.

Giovanni Tiso tweeted:
People who are putting down Pam Corkery have no idea about the tactics used by Internet Parties overseas, do they? Not a clue.
.. and the ensuing conversation was enlightening to say the least.
Given the announcement re Assange, I may have to resile from my 'genuinely considering voting for IMP'.

Coming in late here but I admired Pam Corkery for speaking her mind in no uncertain terms. Yeah yeah we are all meant to be professional , well mannered and .. tidy but sometimes you just have to call shit what it is. She was right those reporters were trying to mine a piece of National PR spin - KimdotCom the evil one etc and completely missing the point.
""You puffed-up little s**t," she said. "He doesn't want to. He said three times, 'I don't want to give you an interview.' He's not a candidate. He doesn't owe you anything. When will you glove puppets of Cameron Slater just piss off?""
Brilliant !

Likewise and delivered with the kudos only an individual with her experience could pull off frankly.

This part is more problematic for me. It was at their Party launch. He's formally engaged in the Party. He's making pretty bold assertions. He mightn't want to comment, but does the media have every reason to seek comment from him.

Alfie, in reply to
TV news of whatever ilk almost always go to events with the story mostly written. It is the job of the event or interviewee to fill in the blanks. It's usually too expensive to send crews out on spec.
I have to take issue with your comment Tinakori. Having worked in TV news for most of my life I can assure you that stories aren't written in advance. Crews are assigned to jobs because they're newsworthy. While a news editor might suggest a particular angle for the journo to follow, in almost every case the story is written after the material has been shot. To do otherwise would be an unethical PR exercise.

One of Chris Knox's early 90s Max Media strips showed its hungover hero being woken by a wrong number. The hyped-up caller assumes that he's got through to Pam Corkery on Radio Pacific, and makes a ranting plea to the effect of "Pam! Pam! We gotta rise up and stick it to the man!"
Corkery wasn't alone in selling herself short through believing her own publicity, but the essential talent continues to out.

Did they interview any of the performers or Hone or Sykes or Hone's well known son or.....any one else that got up on stage? Key may be a cult of personality to his minnions but IMP are portraying a new party . That they have speakers seen as part of the launch, yes, but should KDC be the only part of the launch, I think not. It's the media who wants to make it only about him. JMO

Sofie, I don't agree (and appreciate you did understand my less than clear point in the earlier post).
I think if KDC is going to throw meat around at political rallies, he's got to expect he'll attract media attention. If he does want the discussion about policy, best not talk about hacking credit rating systems. That said, I still think Corkery's response was reasonable.

That would explain why so many live crosses are virtually incomprehensible, I suppose.

Incomprehensible? More like inane.

Sofie, I don’t agree
I know the media will want his comment and he may have learnt that it's best to say something before he goes home but sometimes (like Corkery) things just go astray and the IMP seem to be on the defence about everything they do so I guess it's a learning curve for him and a reminder for her. Although, aren't we supposed to see something different with this Party and do they have to play by the "rules" ? I've always seen Hone as a bit contentious. I kinda expect to see IMP as a bit contentious too. Still, they have made headlines every Monday morning for a while now. Must be pissing National off that they are getting all the attention.

I've worked with one, but only one, journalist who regularly did this. Watching him-or-her coach talent to try to get just the grab he-or-she had pretty much already scripted for was embarrassing.

Good outcome I reckon.
Corkery had a moment, she was likely baited, and though I don't entirely agree with her position (on KDC), I suspect her judgment of the individual in question was spot on. Then again, I've always though Gower a bit of a prat and yet his flying visit to Oravida was brilliant stuff...

Yeah IMP is kinda Impish . I like that too .
When Hone is pissed off he says " I am pissed off" not I am displeased or other polite fluff
