  • Hard News: Go Us,

The Democrat blogs are worried, but one comment puts this in context:

Dude, she read a speech off a teleprompter. What were you expecting, for her to shit her pants and run off the stage?

  • Hard News: Go Us,

The election was lost as of last week, they needed a game changer and long as the odds may be, Palin still has more chances of being "it"

It certainly negates what Biden might be able to get away with in the debates. If he puts on a pugnacious performance he is going to come across as a bully.

Ah sagenz, why does Todd Palin hate America so much?

Todd Palin, husband of Sarah, was a member of the secessionist Alaska Independence Party from 1995 through 2002.

  • Island Life: Serving suggestion only,

That billboard is going to come back and haunt National should it win the election.
NZers going to Australia, UK, US, etc to live is a fact of life and won't change even if the economy flourishes.

Some history. In 1979 the UK Tories ran a clever little bill board campaign showing folks queuing up for the dole and a line "Britain isn't working". Unemployment was, of course, way below the 12% high's Thatcher pushed it up to after the election.

    Just saying.

  • Island Life: Still not over it,

It seems to me that making cyclists free and extending the hours and services on the harbour ferries would probably make more sense, as far as benefit per dollar goes.

That would be good, but really only service the leafy 'burbs of Devonport. The lane over the bridge would surely have a far greater catchment area. You would also need some pretty good access too that lane. I have no idea what it was like at the time of the van idea but that might have been enough to stop folks turning up because...

New Zealand is not a country that cares much for cyclists.

Seriously, try cycle touring round the place to see how fcuked our drivers are with respect to cyclists.

  • Hard News: Awesome,

I have a chilling feeling you might be right.

Yes, but they (Rove's devil spawn) would do that anyway. I have agreed with giovanni but also think Dailykos (which is a community of writers after all) hardly led with this stupid rumour and moved to shut it down pretty quickly as well. They or some other "liberal" would still be cast as the bad guys even if it had not been them who raised it.

  • Hard News: Go Us,

And now, from the story that keeps giving, we bring you the "Alaskan Independence Party".

Q: Aren't most Alaskan Independence Party members a bunch of radicals and Kooks?

A: The party has its share of individualists, in the grand Alaskan tradition. No longer a fringe party, the A.I.P. is a viable third party with a serious mission and qualified candidates for elected offices.

    Quite.
