  • Hard News: A plot point is reached,

    Danyl

    We've always known that National were as dirty as hell

    Are "we". I really must have missed that expose.

    Just looking at McCain's speech. Is he incontinent? I certainly seems to be struggling to hold something in...

  • Hard News: Go Us,

    Why doesn't Bill O'Reilly just interview himself? What is the point of having anyone else on his show? He is so screwed up.

    Paul, maybe. But I am damn near certain that Palin is the candidate put forward by oil. Forget what Rove did or did not want.

    I suspect Obama has different ideas about how to end dependency, BTW (sorry, I haven't logged into the NYt for so long I can't access that speech).

  • Hard News: Go Us,

    The thing the RNC has made clear to me is that McCain and Palin are the oil companies' candidates. Forget the evangelical fundy sideshow, that's just a diversion and one that has been used effectively and just as cynically in the past.

    The real message is "oil anywhere, oil anyhow, oil time".

    I don't remember quite such an unabashed emphasis on this subject in any previous campaign.

    For myself, I can see a bit of the "George Washington" spirit in her.

    Although, on further reflection, that might be understating things a little. A case could be made for comparing her to Alexander the Great, who himself was once a hockey mum.

  • Hard News: Go Us,

    Just in from the RNC. A swiftly penned tribute to the new VP hopeful:

    Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
    Thou art more lovely and more temperate.
    Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
    And summer's lease hath all too short a date.
    Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
    And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;
    And every fair from fair sometime declines,
    By chance or nature's changing course untrimm'd;
    But thy eternal summer shall not fade
    Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st;
    Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
    When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st:
    So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
    So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

    For myself, I can see a bit of the "George Washington" spirit in her.

  • Hard News: The out-of-control manchild…,

    What an utter crock.What about Key bleeting like a little injured lamb everytime anyone attacks his integrity.

    It did cross my mind that National and ACTs current double play on Peters met Key's criteria of "personal attacks".

    That's why it was such a lame proposition at the time.

    On a more serious note, the "base" Palin is supposed to be appealing to love talking about "preachy liberals" whose slovenly values are leading us all straight to hell.

    Some of this stuff about Palin and in particular her children is shitty and horrible. But, if you are going to talk about certain values (a la Don Brash) and foisting these on all and sundry then the blow back when your own weaknesses are exposed, is going to be less forgiving.

    Slightly related, I saw a lady at the RNC talking about why she loved Palin. Had to do with the latter being "pro-life and pro-guns". That was a WTF moment for sure.

    Ok, I know this goes against my comments up thread, but this is stranger than fiction...

    From the guys that broke the Edwards tryst comes Palin says love affair story 'a vicious lie'.

    At least this one can't be pinned on "liberal bloggers", can it?
