  • Capture: EQNZ Remembrance,

Sacha - re. the Cantabrians Unite event of Sunday May 6:
You seem to be aware of Hugh Pavletich's initiatives, and Hebe has alluded elsewhere to the murky aims of the Cantabrians Unite group with which he's involved. Mike Coleman, one of the better speakers from February's event, was notably absent. According to protest organiser Peter Lynch they'd dispensed with him because he'd become too publicly aligned with Labour, and a bipartisan approach was vital when dealing with Brownlee et al. While Lynch appears to be a thoroughly decent guy, Coleman's past performance simply doesn't bear that out.

Personally I'm repelled by the revelations of high-handed and authoritarian treatment of people of proven goodwill who'd assumed Cantabrians Unite to be an organisation of widely inclusive opposition. Fool me twice, shame on me.

  • Capture: Two Tales of a City, in reply to Sacha,

Sacha - not my intention to turn a Capture thread political, but the disconnect between the concerns of those attending and the apparent brave face put on events by the organisers in the face of the low turnout was palpable. Again, a very different side of the coin to the positive event covered by Lilith.

In the interests of keeping things photocentric Ill move the rest of my comments to the EQNZ thread. Thanks.

  • Capture: Two Tales of a City, in reply to Lilith __,

And the sense of quiet determination in all those faces. People who’ve been through so much, still fighting.

Made all the more poignant by the dawning - for some - realisation that the small core of protest organisers weren't being entirely candid about their own agenda. More ineptitude than conspiracy perhaps, but it's left an unpleasant aftertaste.

Another nice idea from crafty Cantabrians.

    Excellent! Upward & onward.

Anyway a couple more shots from a bunch of supposed outtakes that Gudrun was kind enough to pass on.

    Love the piano Kebabette.
Great to see luxury-sized Lilith at last.
    Thanks again Capture.

  • Southerly: Liveblog: Moving House (Literally), in reply to Hilary Stace,

Can someone direct Roger Sutton to PublicAddress, please. He would find out a lot about Christchurch and its citizens' concerns here. Then he wouldn't have to act so surprised on television.

If only. While it's no thanks to CERA, the story here has a happy ending, unlike most of the poor worn-down souls on Facebook who must hang on every rumour in the hope of some relief from their wretched uncertainty.

A brilliant media coup by the Hay/Haywoods. And what hopeless minders Sutton appears to have, that they'd fuss over his increasingly silly faux Beethoven hairstyle* while putting him on TV in his ideological undies.

*Bet you they do. These are probably the same folks whose market research tells them that Grizz Wyllie is second most trusted after St Rog.

    Roger Sutton.

"There's only been about 50 people approaching us wanting to move their houses".

So one has managed to do it by share bloodymindedness (I mean that in a nice way), what about the other 49? Clearly bringing the camera helped get the message across.

Again, the knee-jerk denial of anything that can't be event managed. As national TV is the ultimate form of event management, it's refreshing to see Sutton in fawning amateur mode.

Meanwhile that sad urban myth about Sutton is still doing the rounds, the one that claims that he's repeatedly attempted to resign only to be blocked by Brownlee. People still want to believe, yet none of the believers can tell you just how Brownlee manages to do it.

I'm gonna tell on you an I'll tell your Mum and yer Dad if we can find 'em . . .

I'll get yer! An if I don't get yer me mate'll get yer! An if me mate don't get yer yer not worth gettin!

There was a claimed unacknowledged appropriation of someone's work in the Auckland film industry in the mid-80s that was resolved by pouring concrete into the alleged offender's toilet. Their failure to take legal redress was seen as an admission of guilt. A simple solution from a simpler time.
