  • Hard News: Key Questions,

Gee Whizz Bang Noodle - after saving the planet from disaster with the visit to China - I really thought Key was going to announce that Bronagh was going to head the GCSB - and that this was a step up in security from school friend to sweetheart.

This is however, how your civil liberty is eroded, little by little, bit by bit.

  • Hard News: Key Questions, in reply to Rob Stowell,

You bet we can get by without them.

Yes - but "they" don't feel they can't get along without "it".

The situation, as it has evolved, is that the Prime Minister can, for the purpose of retaining office or other ill, use the spy services to keep tabs on people, influence their action and interactions with others, and interfere with their lives and adversely influence or close out the voice of reason and dissent.

I don't feel it is chance that Key is at the centre of this as it unravels (via the Kim Dot Com Fiasco)

A key element of this Key Government is the series of fiascos in most facets of government - a continuum of incompetence and cover-ups.

The SIS, the Police and the FBI using the GCSB for illegal purposes.

The Courts when interpreting legislation do at times consider the “intentions of the house” where matters are unclear – however in the context of the GCSB Act there is no lack of clarity about not spying on NZ Residents or Citizens.

The Benefit of MMP is we have a minor party that has the opportunity to hold the government to account and perhaps the house as a whole can work to resolve the issues.

Not arguing that GCSB didn't break the law, Keir. Just arguing that it's not obvious that Parliament intended that GCSB not assist other agencies, and pointing out that someone is going to have these capabilities even if it's not GCSB.

The assistance to to ehr agencies is a smokescreen - as to intention Keith Locke is quite clear on what the intention was - the Citizen A post on you tube with Keith Locke

someone needs to have the capability.

Seriously - Read Sacha's Link which takes you to the No Right Turn.

That people are even considering as a solution Key and his like being able to spy on NZers at a whim is troubling - and that the solution is reported in the media with no real scrutiny - well - just dense.

  • Hard News: Key Questions, in reply to Trevor Nicholls,

    GCSBAct 2003 - provides under s 14

s - 14 - Interceptions not to target domestic communications
Neither the Director, nor an employee of the Bureau, nor a person acting on behalf of the Bureau may authorise or take any action for the purpose of intercepting the communications of a person (not being a foreign organisation or a foreign person) who is a New Zealand citizen or a permanent resident.

Doe not provide grounds for confusion - looking at the obejcts and purpose of the GCSB as contained in the Act - The GCSB was never set up to target New Zealand citizens or permanent residents.

That the solution to this mess is to enable GCSB to spy on New Zealand citizens or permanent residents at the whim of the Minister in Charge or the Director is a disturbing erosion of civil rights and freedom.

Sorry meant to finish with -

The excuses paraded in all manner of places are coming out as labour and national are likely equally bent.

Perhaps Key should be seeking Keith Locke's input.

Shearer's views on this that an inquiry is needed before any reform is something I support.

There is also the very real possibility that Police, SIS, and the Office of the Prime Minster used the GCSB to undertake surveillance as they saw fit - say at the request of the FBI - and had no regard to any form of warrant or authority at law.

The excuses paraded in al amnner of places are coming out as labour and national are likely equally bent.
