In a symmetry kind of way, I will note that the election was preceded by a solar eclipse, and the announcement of results will be followed by the last total lunar eclipse until 2014 (in the early hours of the 11th if I've done my time conversions correctly), but NZ will not be getting the full view of it.

Colour and birds reminded me of this pair of pictures I took a while ago. Due to circumstances they are both a bit out of focus, but in this case I pretend it is a fortuitous soft focus.

This one might be of interest, in a composite image kind of way. A couple of years ago I took a scan of a picture of the Octagon from 1890 and tried to match the position of the photographer.

Athyrium nipponicum var. 'Silver Falls' (Silver Falls Fern). Dunedin Botanic Gardens Feb 2010. I took two pictures taken at the same time with different ISO, apeture, and shutter speed, the other one looked like a boring patch of ferns.
