Stephen, take 30 seconds in the "Cop" when Liverpool go down a goal and you will observe true "national disaster" in sports.

PA superiority aside, we really don't do sports mourning all that well in NZ.

French national anthem is probably the best in the world.

Except for the bit where it goes all lame and slow, Even the French have trouble signing along to that bit.

The Swiss, eh? Just quote the "Third Man" line from Orson Wells at them:

"What have they invented..."the cuckoo clock".

I have it on got authority that they didn't even invent that.

But, Sydney has a mono-rail. It's on the map.

Keith, you obviously missed the ad in the NZ Herald by these folks with this graph.

I am sure they would explain it all much better than I can. Seems that if we move the country back 150 years in time, to when there were no taxes and we were 2ND IN TEH WORLD, all will be just fine and dandy.

BTW, the "Foundation for Economic Growth" provides a really great example of non-political political advertising.

Graeme I could kiss you, if I weren't so manly.

Talking of videos, I do wonder whether this one would be of any use to our fatties, you know, the next time.

Oops, sorry Craig. I confused you with a gentleperson called "horse".

Still don't understand your point to Russell.

Don't be. It's only Craig and I don't understand his first point either.

    Interesting stuff on forward passes:

Christ, you do need to be Einstein after all to understand this game.

Barnes appears to be the new golden boy in English rugby, so presumably there was politics involved, but there's something badly wrong there.

One thing I do remember was the incident in Wellington a few months ago where the French coach was witnessed haranguing the test match ref. and then telling him he would never referee an international again. I wonder how much access he had to the refs prior to this game.

First Suzy, now Barnes... we're great on the excuse department!

As I and many have said the ABs still should have been able to win. This was not the case on 1995 where players such as Goldie, were puking their guts out during the game.

I think that bad refereeing is part of the game in the same way players play badly at times, but this took it to new lows. In 1995 the ref was awarded a gold watch by the SAs for his "performance". The French would do well to give Barnes a life size gold replica of the Eiffel tower.

Of course the ref had an big impact. I have been watching rugby in the UK and NZ for nearly thirty years and I have never, ever seen a full half go by without at least one penalty being awarded to each side.

The fact that the French, in desperate defense mode, didn't have a single penalty against them in the second half speaks volumes for his capability.

I also think the ABs could have won this despite that but they lacked confidence at the breakdown. And good on the French. They played a very cunning game and played it bravely. I hope and pray that this time they have more than one good game in them.

After talking stats with Tracey Nelson, she completely dispelled the myth of Reuben "Mr Invisible" Thorne and had plenty of stats to say that he was a very productive player.

I have great respect for Tracey but we agreed to disagree on this point. She alway had the "first three" to break down, tackle etc. in her stats and Thorne did pretty well as bringing up the rear in that three. Being a blind side flanker I would have expected him to do better. Some Canty blinkers in thos stats I fear.
