    re:Alan Wood Reserve cross-section

So not only is the reserve gone, the motorway is going to be higher than the surrounding area that will only serve to heighten the noise effect, and loss of amenity value for that area.

  • Field Theory: Must be some guy that Lester,

I think the FA Cup is played strictly on sufference by the Premier League clubs

Not so sure - if you had said League Cup (or whatever it is called these days) I would agree with you.

I certainly agree about the element of chance - there wouldn't be many upsets in the early rounds of a provincial rugby knockout, but the smaller teams would still enjoy it (imho).

    <quote>in a knock-out style tournament.<quote>
    Definitely.

The FA Cup must be one of the most watched sporting competitions in the world (no research on my part, just a guess) - and it's a knockout competition.

I have often wondered why the NZRFU hasn't made the Ranfurly Shield a knockout competition. While Wairarapa-Bush v. Canterbury may be a bit one-sided, it would be great for all the Masterton school boys to be able to watch the game at Memorial Park!

  • Hard News: There is History,

Could somebody kindly point me to panic in the media? ...

Not a lot of panic, but many unnecessary live crosses to reporters. TVONE crossed to a reporter outside Rangitoto College - "There's no-one at school at 6 o'clock on a Sunday night" I yelled at the TV. I don't know why he didn't just stay in the studio.

  • Field Theory: So what are you doing in 2011?,

less problems with post match drunkenness

but there would be pre-match drunkenness as the all-nighters stagger from the night-clubs in the city along New North Road to Eden Park.

  • Field Theory: So what are you doing in 2011?,

    From the EPNA site:

    9. The number of night-time rugby, cricket or similar type sporting events (requiring the use of lights) shall be limited 16 in any calendar year, with games being scheduled to finish no later than 9.05pm (for rugby) and 10.00pm (for cricket).

    11. There shall be no night-time games on Sundays

I'm not sure how up to date this is, but it looks like they'll be playing 2 minutes each way, with a 1 min half-time break for the 1st semi-final, and the 2nd semi-final and final will be postponed!

Yes, they're going to shorten the games - hadn't you heard?

    lol!

The 9pm starts are also for the games that can go to extra time. I hope Veolia can find some train drivers prepared to work past midnight!
