C4 not picking up The Daily Show this year
-
Hi everyone
I sent some feedback on C4's website asking why they hadn't scheduled The Daily Show this week as new episodes are being broadcast this week in the US. I received the following response:
"Greetings,
Brace yourself! For reasons currently unknown (to me... And everyone I have so far enquired with at least) C4 have decided not to pick up The Daily Show for 2010.
I wish I had better news for you...
Regards
TV3 and C4"At least clips are available online, but I'm disappointed.

I don't see episodes scheduled on Comedy Central, either.
-
Jesus Christ, I just read this. And that is *totally annoying*.
-
Selfishly, if it moves to Comedy Central then it will make recording it along with Colbert a little easier. But yeah, balls, especially for our Skyless brethren.
-
Erm... Colbert is not on Comedy Central's current schedule and is not featured on the NZ Comedy Central website either. Is he on hiatus right now or are we just totally buggered?
I sure am glad they've scheduled full hours of The King of Queens, though.
ETA: Oh wait. He's still on the website. Filed under 'The' rather than 'Colbert' (uh, why?), but I remain confused about his status.

My husband, who has been on a letter-writing blitz, received an email telling him to 'watch this space' from Comedy Central, with a smiley. They said they had something 'exciting' to fill Colbert's slot. I'm assuming Colbert is dropped altogether and the Daily Show will take its place.

Hopefully they'll pick it up. In the meantime I've set up a Facebook group (because we all know Facebook groups can change the world) to call for its return http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=235994543132&ref=ts

I'm picking:
(a) Viacom wants its programme back, and it will now appear on Comedy Central for money.
(b) The Daily Show, although beloved of Public Address-reading hipsters, does not actually rate very well for C4.
-
Hopefully it will be picked up by Comedy Central and that will fix the bug on My Sky where it couldn't do series link. I had to set it manually every week!
-
It could be (c) They really didn't want to associate with Radio Live.
-
Pete - ha, yeah I used to find it weird seeing that radio live advert with the daily show too - gave me the hee bee jeebees. I blame that on 1. Laws, sssshhhuuder and 2. radio live ? never listen to it, too busy with the b. Where as the daily show was mostly a fine giggle. I'm bummed at this news . So little to watch on the box, yet so much time.

If Comedy Central NZ hasn't sewn up the rights perhaps the powers that be at TVNZ 7 could look down the back of the sofa for some cash to buy the rights, it would be a very good fit considering the way the network has oriented itself.

If you don't enter this into White Whine, I swear I will.

You can always go to the web.
Firefox plugin and instructions to get around geo-blocking of sites like dailyshow.com, nbc.com and others.

THE BEST IN ALTERNATIVE NEWS BACK TO BACK!THE DAILY SHOW AND THE COLBERT REPORT COME HOME TO COMEDY CENTRAL
The Daily Show and The Colbert Report Premieres Tuesday April 6th @ 10:30pm on Comedy Central - SKY Digital Channel 010
AUCKLAND, Wednesday 17th February 2010 – A two-pronged comedy attack is winging its way to TV screens all around New Zealand. The acclaimed Daily Show and The Colbert Report will be playing back to back on the home of the funnies - Comedy Central – starting April 6th.
Both shows will be fresh off the satellite feed on the same day as the US broadcast – with The Daily Show: Global Edition arriving on Comedy Central in NZ on a Monday evening then new daily episodes every Tuesday to Friday at 10:30pm, with The Colbert Report immediately following at 11pm.
The Daily Show really needs no introduction. But if you HAVE been living under a rock for the past few years, the half hour satirical news show has been critically acclaimed for its sometimes surreal, sometimes brutally honest take on the absurdity of the US media – frequently taking pot shots at Fox News and right-wing commentators. Having been awarded 13 Emmy’s and 2 Peabody Awards over the 10 years Jon Stewart has helmed the show, Stewart himself has become a household name, the thinking woman’s crush du jour and has gone on to mainstream success presenting both the Academy Awards and the Grammy Awards twice.
Stephen Colbert’s Daily Show spin off, The Colbert Report, is a deliberate send up of the very right wing shows that The Daily Show takes aim at. Colbert (pronounced Coal-Bear) is eerily accurate with his portrayal of the likes of Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity and a plethora of other “dangerous” political commentators and presenters. His deadpan delivery and constant bandwagonesque jumping (including ridiculing President Bush at a White House Correspondent’s Dinner; broadcasting from Baghdad with “Operation Iraqi Stephen” and sponsoring the US Olympic Speed skating team at the current Winter Olympics), on top of his ever escalating parodied sense of self worth, have shown that it’s not just a one-horse race in terms of satirical news shows.
Absolutely brilliant, political satire at its best, The Daily Show and The Colbert Report are shows “unburdened by objectivity, journalistic integrity or even accuracy; the only place you’ll find all the truthiness you deserve. “. Well that’s what it says on The Daily Show website.

1. The Tor Browser Bundle can be useful when attempting to overcome geographical bias. This may allow people to view content from the original source, rather than viewing content from less reputable secondary sources.
2. Once installed learning to specify an exit node is helpful.
3. To avoid the “you need to install Flash" message, without additionally downloading & installing Flash, for PC users copying your existing Flash files into the relevant Browser-Bundle directory in order watch videos . eg from C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash
OSX users may find this step redundant.4. Remembering to enable “Flash” via “Aurora > Preferences > Manage Add-ons” also very useful for both PC and OSX. Something called “Noscript” may prevent scripts running automagically, but clicking on the beiged-out missing content should result in the appearance of a pop-up confirmation box with an appropriate option.
Bandwidth permitting, you may now be able to stream video from elsewhere.

Susan Main, in reply to
there isn't any geo blocking - you can watch full episodes for free from the Daily Show's website
